Spain and Poland, backed by Britan softened their positions and tried to make it work. The Germans and French refused to move an inch!

The EU is a very interesting notion. They want to kind of be like a United States, but unlike the United States they have very long, distiguised, and sometimes antogonistic histories. I think they underestimated how tough this is going to be for them.

I will be very surprised if something get's hammered out before I die.

At the current time, the only good things to come from France are the Ton Tons, Jean Reno, and the Eiffel Tower Chase scene in "A View to a kill".

Thats a good thing. Our Constitution has been just fine without any references to Christianity.

Oh hush!

What I meant was that Spain and Poland want references to their heritage in the constitution and France refused on the grounds that it may offend Turkey. That's all. They did not want "A christian union" or anything like that in it.

Also stop pointing out facts! It takes all the bluster out of my French Bashing!

They are writing a constituition, which will be an inherently difficult task. The Constitutional Convention of this country didn't finish the Declaration of Independence without conflict between delegates. Nor did they finish it in one night. Before we had our current Constitution, we had the Articles of Confederation, which, as many of you know failed miserably. Nothing on this grand of a scale is ever easy.
