Help wiring up a stereo.. ???

Hey guys, I have a question for you all about car stereo wiring. I jerked my 6-cd changer and head unit out of my car in WA before moving to VA so that I could put it in my car here. Well, needless to say, once I got it all wired back up, I get no sound. The deck turns on and is fully functional yet I get no sound.. ??? Anyone ever have this happen to them before, or have a possible solution?

I know for a fact that everything is wired correctly, I even cut everything once and rewired it just to make sure everything had a good connection. Do you think that it is possible that the decks internal amp broke in shipping? Thus leaving me no other option but to buy a new deck

But, I thought I would ask all of you wise folks here on AO before I go out galavanting around for a new head unit! Any help or suggestions would be very greatful! I spent $650 on this deck, and am very sad to see it not working.

    Thanks guys!

try going/calling (to) a car audio store and see what they have to say about it. IMO a $650 deck shouldnt break that easily..maybe call the company, too and see if there's a warranty on it..for $650 there should be.

Cannot you put out to an amp, and power the speakers through that if the internal one broke?
I don't know much, just an idea.

Pyro that seams like a feasable thing to do... However, I dont know how the deck would transmit the sound signals TO the amp without the internal amp working.

Leroy, the deck is about 2.5 years old now, well out of its warranty period. There is a good chance that it got beat to death in shipping. I do plan on going to a car audio place and having them test it to get to the bottom of the problem tomorrow or monday, because its getting really annoying listening to the radio. Even though the radio stations where I am now are pretty good, a lot of variet, and a lot of stations pertaining to the kind of music that I like to listen to.

I'm not sure why, but some factory amps actually block the signal from an aftermarket stereo. Most after market stereos have the amp built in.. you'll never see it or have any reason to mess with it. Some actually have the amp outside of the casing and you have to follow the install guide to get the color coded wires hooked up right. After market stereos DO NOT require an amp. I would try hooking up a walkman or something to make sure you got all the right speaker wires and that all the speaker are actually working. Make sure your ignition and constant power are good use a speaker from a different stereo and plug it up to your stereo in the car and see if your getting a signal from the deck.

There's alot of simple troubleshooting you can do to find the scource of your problem....

                      Heat, thx for the info...

Most of that I have tried... I put back in the stock deck to make sure that the speakers were working and what not, and they all were. The deck that I have gets power and functions, just doesnt seem to transmit the sound.... So I know that power/ground/ignition wires are all hooked up correctly.

then you need to get a speaker and connect it to the deck while installed ... to make sure the deck isn't fried. If that works... then some wires ( pry the univeral ground depending how old the car is ) is pry mislabled. What year model and make is this car anyway.. Mustangs for instance before 87 will have to be rewired, they use a universal ground that causes aftermarket decks to loose the sound signal. i don't know why either, I've done several 80s mustangs and they all sucked... needless to say I know them very well

Heat, I am working on an '89 Bronco XLT.

What wires would need to be rewired correctly to bring back that sound signal that was lost as how you described in your previous post? This actually sounds like it may having something to do with my problem.

dangit I KNEW it... I just was hopping it wasn't true. I have a a"friend" with a bronco we tried doing some stereo job on... I got it installed and it didn't work either.. this was about 6-7 months ago, then he caused alot of trouble and I haven't talked with him since. I KNOW it's a bronco thing, but I never got to figure this one out. Try opening a speak pannel and splice in a LONG wire and directly connect it to the deck... if there's sound then you have 2 options.
                            a) rewire leads and grounds to every speaker ( this is the easy one )
                            b) trace all the speaker wires around the car to find either and amp or a factory cross over of some sort

Maybe i'll take it in and let the stereo guru's deal with that... I don't feel like putting forth that much effort, hehe.

                              Thx!
