when you start your machine, hit F8 after it loads the bios, right before the windows screan appears. Select boot to command line or dos prompt. Or, if your in windows, go to Start --> Run --> enter " cmd " (with no quotes)to get a dos prompt.

Well you don't have DOS then there is a command prompt to take you to C:/ but although the screen has the "appearence" of a DOS screen it isn't really there within XP not a true form anyway...Boot up of the PC may well be DOS but then since it is the Motherboard Bios not the OS....
To get to the command prompt within XP you go start>all programs>accessories>command prompt

Well ok from what I remember about DOS....at the c:/ type cd(space)a: hit return you should now be at the a:/ prompt then type run it might work?....I just tried that but as i don't have a disk in the a drive it just returned to c:/Documents and Settings\Mark but you are where you wanted to be now so it's down you Gunga Din.

are we talking floppy disk or cdrom?
                      Type cd\
type d: (or A: if its a floppy)
                      type dir/p
Can you see what is on the disc?
                      look for the exe file
                      maybe a setup file
                      or install
