shareware back in the day was basically a program someone made and distributed for free or a demo (like doom for example) or is that free ware? i forget i think they are the same thing shareware doesnt have to be something like kazaa or morpheus it could be anything program someone gives for free.

EDIT: which by the way is not illegal however using it for illegal purposes is illegal

Shareware is a program that is distributed freely as a demo or a full program and if after trying it for a certain time you continue to use it you are supposed to send money to the developer. Freeware is a full program that is distributed freely.
