computer dudes- help me w/ my wireless

i have wireless at school and home. our school buys laptops and gives them to us for our 4 years there- we basically own them- we take them home and all that fun stuff. we finally got wireless at school and we use our built-in wireless cards that came on our laptops (ibm r31). it works fine at school, not a home. i have to use a crappy usb wireless internet adapter thingy, and we have a wireless router (i dunno what its called). both are made by netgear.

my usb adapter works all the time, but its reallllly slow. my built in ibm one works for about 5 min after activating it, then it stops working for no good reason.

is there anything i can change or set?

Sounds as if you are lucky you are getting any connection...you sure it isn't the cacheyou are viewing? but anyway you can use the laptop at school as the network reconises your pc you home router doesn't as your router at home is expecting a different mac address...you will have to clone the mac address for home and then reset it when you are at school.....netgear is more than a little pants I just had to dump a netgear card as it didn't have the balls to connect over a 10 metre cat5 cable ????
