I'm an Army Cadet, but I was told by an Air Force General that he could get me to the Air Force Academy. After some thought I decided I wanted to go to OSU and go Army, but the Air Force is a great service. I have a friend at the Academy right now, more than a few enlisted in it and one wanted to go OCS. My only academy complaint is that I don't think they accept transfer credit (my friend was a college sophomore before he decided to go to the Academy, now he's a sophomore there) and so the average semester consists of 18 to 20 credit hours. All in all, it's a great institution and opportunity. It may be odd for an Army Cadet to praise the Air Force, but I think you need to do what is best for you. In the end we all come to the same philosophy...

Oh sweet memories...
be careful visiting congressmen, although they like their rears smooched, as a 10th grader you may be coming on too strong. Stop in, get the packet MEET THE SECRETARY and leave...for now. Interviews, letters all of that nonsense comes later.
I didn't see where you both are at but beware, congressmen "trade" academy slots....I grew up in Daytona Beach, some of my congressmen thought FL wanted Navy so they traded their Army/AF academy slots to midwest states. Army guys like me lost out. I picked up a golf scholarship to the AF Academy and still went Army.
Foxalot you are "checking the right boxes" but letter in a TEAM sport if you are not already. Times are a changin', PB may be an option for you. Also a part time job could round you out.
I am an Army pilot, I have been stationed at both USAF bases and Army Posts. I fly with both parties every day. Here is the down and dirty, you decide what is more important to you:
Army- You will never be part of a closer team in your life. Prepare to work, play and party hard with the same people. You will learn to do more with less. Your individual quality of life (home, time with family, and "creature comforts" will be sacrificed.
Air Force- You will work your shift and retire to you room until it is time for your shift again. If the proverbial feces ever hits the fan you will lack the skills necessary to survive according to Darwin. Quality of life will be better for your family, you will spend more time at home.
Hit me up with your questions, I am not a recruiter and will give you the honest truth.

Hey dude,
Thanx for the info I didnt know about congressmen could swap slots. Ya learn somthin new everyday. Yeah i also dont want to spend anymore time then I have to with congressmen. They scare me
. I just want the guy to know my face and be able to put a name and face together when it comes time. I love golf so I will try to use that but I always need practice
but... If i could use paintball as my sport wwooohoo now that would be cool. Ok yeah im jealous i want sooo badly to be a pilot. What do you fly and how does it feal. Once im done with training i would love to fly the f-22. That thing is sweet or a 15 or actually anything for that matter. I am getting my rpivate pilots license next yeah sometime I hope. If you got any more info or just how flying is I am all ears Id love to hear about it!

By the time you hit active duty the @2009 (2 more years HS, 4 yrs college, 2 years for basic officer tng and flight tng) the F22 should be in its third year of fielding. Chances are good that you could go straight into one of these units from your training.
I fly the AH64 Apache helicopter like in my sig block. It is the Ferrari of helicopters. Nothing else I have flown even compares. Its control response is comparable to an F16s as far as roll rate, etc. Any flying will benefit you, it all contributes to air sense. If it is practical get your instructor to at least expose you to instruments so you can familiarize yourself with that aspect as well.

Well, I think of the phrase as an Infantry quote. I heard it more than once from a Ranger Captain here during PT. My dad was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force, and I've had a chance to meet some really great guys in blue because he's the President of AFA (Air Force Association). You have to go with what fits your needs, so my dad told me to go Army since one of my primary interests in a military career was to fly helicopters, and the Air Force only trains 50 a year. Now I've also gotten interested in Space Command, which is primarily an Air Force command. There are some Army guys in it, but what I really want to do is join a Cav unit. Love the tradition, and nothing goes with blues better than spurs and a Stetson. My top 3 branch choices, in no particular order, are Armor, Aviation, or Signal Corps.Originally posted by jobo_18
