No.... That is NOT what he is saying.

In the case of the .40 S&W, 9mm and the .45 ACP, they were all initially created for use in Handguns. The 45/70 Gov't and .600 Nitro Exp. were created for Rifles. How each of these cartridges, or more precisely, the firearms that they are used in now, came about through experimentation or someone's "better idea".

What you say is true to some extent. Every cartridge ever made could be used in both handguns and rifles. BUT... You have to look at the original intent for the creation of that particular cartridge.

The Uzi in 9mm Parabellum uses a psitol cartridge like any other "sub-machinegun".

45-70 is a rifle cartridge. .45 caliber using 70 grains of blackpowder. any handgun using one also falls under the same category as that monster using the .600NE. Not a pistol round like the new Smith .500. There are a lot of pistols out there that are chambered for rifle cartridges. Remington XP100's, Savage made one I think Browning made an XP100 knockoff and then there are the single shots that can be had in anything you want up to and including .50BMG.

The point of the S&W pistol is that it uses pistol ammo, not a rifle cartridge.
