To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered

As for where it comes from, teh, pwn, !!11 etc come from common mistakes made when typing, and eventually just got turned into regularly used words (unfortunately).
l337=leet=elite=the best or whatever. early hacker talk until teh ub3r n00bs f0und 0ut h0w 3@sy 1t w@s t0 do and started using it.
Now it's just annoying.

Teh is the, but only because when people type really fast without checking for errors teh is a really common mistake.
