    Cars=Pieces of tin

So here's a little story for some people. I was driving to my grandparents house yesterday to pick up my grandmother and see my granfather in the hospital. I was driving on a back road by my house doing about 50, the speed limit. Another car was stopped on the opposite side of the road trying to pull into a house. A 24 year old girl in a dodge sport truck was doing about 75 on the road, didn't notice the car stopped and slammed the breaks to stop from rear-ending the other car. Well, with my horrible luck, as she did that I was drvining up the opposite side of the road, and the girl swirved into my lane doing about 60. She caught the front of my car head on, about half of the front actually. Her truck pushed my Blazer to the side, and her truck knoced my whole left side of the car about 1 foot in. I went off the road, into some guys lawn, did a 360 in the gras, and went up onto 2 wheels. The only thing that stopped my blazer from flipping over was a little tree, that had just enough strength to hold my car back from flipping. I tried to get out of the car, and for someeason I ddin't think I got hit real bad, and didn't understand why my door wouldn't open. I had to get out on the passenger side. When she hit me, my window broke in my face, and it was a maracle I wasn't cut up real bad, but I wasn't. I got out of the car, ony to realize my bumper was in some dudes driveway, I plowed down a tree, ripped the wheels of the shocks, and ripped the drive train out of the transmition. My car was completley totaled. Somehow I managed to get out of all this with a stiff neck. It's so amazing I was not hurt. The state tropper said that had I not turned the wheel at the exact time, I would have probably died going that fast.

This made me realize what tin cans cars really are. Nothing more than little tin cans, it wreck so easily. Any of you guys ever been in a car accident? I can't stop thinking about a day later. It's so scary when I think about it. I have only had my liscense a month, and already an accident. I suppose it can only get better.

i say they make cars like bumper cars, with rubber on all the contact points so if you were to flip over they would absorb the shock and you would be safe. or like a nerf car, with alot of padding around a strong metal frame...i think serious safety is important not like a seat belt or something, something that could actually protect your car

i didnt realize this when i first read your post, but my brother just got his liscense and has a blazer as well...yikes

If you have two objects, one moving at 60 mph and one at 50 mph the teo are going to cause damage to each other. What would you expect to happen, did you think your car would just bounce off of her car and land 5 feet back un damaged?

Glad you werent hurt but honestly what did you expect?

Good luck getting a ner car. Hows the girl?

Actually they build cars nowadays to basically fall apart on impact. With controlled collapsing designs, they can insure that the occupants of the vehicle remain in one piece. Ever seen an F1 car wreck? It looks horrible, parts fly everywhere, but the driver will normally walk away because the car absorbed all of the energy from the impact instead of him. I believe this was discovered during early racing when a car crashed, the car survived intact, but the driver didn't.

Yeh, I always new cars didn't take alot, but being a new driver I never realized how much they can get messed up, and that they really don't hold up thast great. Oh well, I'm alive, so I guess Chevy did something right by making that blazer.

The reason the car is completely ruined is because they are designed to crumple to absorb the hit. If they built cars to remain intact after a 110mph collision then all the force of the impact would be transferred to you, and you would not remain intact.

You survived effectively a 110 mph collision with a stiff neck. You should be kissing the Blazer, not berating it. It protected you from a very severe impact.

On the plus side....Ka-Ching!!!! I smell a big lawsuit!!!!!! Now you can buy a Ferrari and then complain about tin!

If the car did not crumple at that speed all that energy would go into you, and you would die instantly.

We were just in an accident too. Me and my dad were going to pick up my sister from horse back riding. As we were making the turn a chevy malibu came around the corner way to fast he had to be going like 45 on a turn you should take at 20 and he went into our lane to compensate and ran into our side. Luckily we were turning or it would have been head on. Also I had told my dad to drive because I hate driving the van. If I had been driving our insurance would have sky rocketed. Now the car is totaled and we are getting a honda pilot so it was a good thing since no one got hurt. The guys malibu's left fender was completely gone and he had tubes and lights and stuff hanging all over the place.

a few months ago a friend was in a crazy highway accedent. he was in his mr2, and it hydro plained whiled he was doing 80. did a 360 plus some, came out facing the median, hit the back end of an explorer, and the way mr2's are shaped, it basicly ramped the back passenger side wheel, causing it to flip the explorer end over end then over on it side, and slide a long azz way till it scraped over a sewer thing that was sticking up out the ground, totaled the explorer. repair cost on the mr2 were 500, and that includes the tow back, and the sway bar that was already busted anyway. really scary, it is still hard to realize that it happened. i saw it all cause i was in the passing lane and he was in the middle lane, we were on our way to drop off his car to get some speakers put in it. crazy stuff, definatly a tv style crash only it was real.

Not sure how fast I was going, the needle was pinned at 110 and I had the wheels locked about 20ft before hitting the pole, I figure the impact was around 90. I walked out of there somehow.

                          Glad your ok though.

oh man, your insurance premium is about to go up

if you dont like cars smashing real bad in an accident, maybe you should get a real car:

a few years ago i got t-boned by a guy going 85 mph right in my drivers door, horrible wreck. needless to say, the other guy is in a wheelchair, but my cadillac survived the crash. drove it home that night. its an 89 cadillac fleetwood brougham. needed a new door, but it was intact other wise. i got out with a couple of broken ribs.
