Paypal ? (3%)

I've read alot of people talking about a 3% per dollar charge, I looked all over Paypals site and there is nothing about this % except for the business accounts, am I missing something?

they had this thing that said tehy would give you 5$ if you signed up for it a while ago... needless to say i signed up not reading the small print and got my 5$

Paypal is free to all if you dont accept more than 500 a month. If you do, they will upgrade your account and you will have to pay them 3% on all you receive from then on. Paypal is a convenience to the BUYER, so be considerate and include the 3% for the seller.

Just a note, though.

on eBay, the seller cannot add 3% to the final auction price for paypal. If the auction ends at 100, they can't say "Well, you are paying with paypal so it'll be 103 + shipping".

The smart seller just pads his shipping & handling with the paypal fee, so just be aware of that when using paypal on ebay.

For a small item (Lets say up to $300), the paypal fees aren't too bad.

If you buy an $800 computer on eBay, though, thats an extra $24. Not a huge amount, but its very noticeable.

I don't sell much on ebay, but I don't think I'd bother padding my shipping unless I was selling something that was up in $1000 range.

This is what I do. I just include it in my asking price. More or less. If its a small item. Say under 500. If its more than 500 and I am not going to eat them then I clearly state that you will have to pay the fee if you chose to pay by pay pal. Sometimes I go ahead and figure what its going to be and price it accordingly. But either way I say up front if Pay Pal is acceptable and wether or not fee's are included in the price if you use it. Sometimes I split the fee if need be on a large ticket item for a particular buyer.

Now if its eBay I just include it in my reserve and let it go.

Personal accounts are free for paymant and reception of payments unless the buyer is paying through paypal on an account that is drawn from a credit card.Then the seller is charged that fee to accept the payment.If the buyer account is drawn from a bank account or funds that are in a Paypal account then there is no charges either way.

Merchant accounts are charged fees on all incoming transfers regardless of thier source.

Whats annoying is that people can send you money and you NEED to upgrade your account in order to collect the money.

For anyone who actually read the fine print not only is it aginst paypal's rules to surcharge but also illigle in many areas.

The federal government outlawed it a LONG time ago. Mainly, because gas stations were charging two prices, one for cash, one for creidt card.

At Mom and Pop's stores I like, usually, I just pay cash so they don't have to lose the 3%. But thats just me

I've heard this argument before on here, Paypal is a convenience to the BUYER. adding in the surcharge to the price of whatever covers the seller's hassles.

Seller could care less where the buyer comes up with the funds, if the buyer wants the convenience of having instant pay, they ought to be ones to pony up the fees for doing so.

That's not true.I accept payments all the time w/ a personal account w/out fees,I just don't accept payments drawn on a credit card.

Thats what I mean, paypal allows people to send you credit card payments on a normal account, and you have to either upgrade your account or deny the payment and denying it in my experiance makes people not happy. But its there own fault for not reading the payment instructions.
