I saw this on yahoo this morning. I think a 14 year sentence was enough.

I hope MLB has enough sense to let Charlie Hustle into the Hall of Fame at least!

Like Rose himself said, If he had done drugs or alcohol Baseball would have suspended him for 6 weeks and paid for reabilitation. He had a grambling problem and baseball instead of seeking him help they suspend him for life. Strawberry can do everydrug known to man, get suspended more times than Rodman and get welcomed back everytime. But Pete Rose bets on baseball and BAM he's out for life.

I agree Reinstate the man and let bygones be bygones. He's served the sentence, now let the man take his rightful place in the Hall.

Giamotti had a serious grudge against Rose for lying to him.

Rose made it worse by publicly denying he gambled on Baseball.

        Rose apparently is coming clean.

        Time to reinstate him.

If he got stoned in vegas and married a hooker they'd have suspended him for a week. But he bet a couple of bucks on a game and hes baninished for life. Anyone see the problem with this?

while it was retarded grounds to begin with (knowing that other hall-of-famers did worse things...), i think pete rose sold out. #1, assuming he did actually gamble, why did he hold back this long? he knew if he admitted it, he'd be eligible to be admitted into the hall, so why wait? prolly because he didn't actually gamble and didn't wanna sell out. well, now he did. because he wants to be in the hall and the clock is ticking away...#2, assuming he actually ACTUALLY gambled, again..why wait? even in his bio, he's making certain to only admit to betting in baseball, and NOT against his own team (admitting the latter would basically negate the first admittance). so ya, i think he sold out so he could get into the hall.

but is this so wrong, when it was stupid to ban him in the first place? naaaaaaaah. go petey!

I dont see the big deal about him gambling. wow, its illegal, like someone already mentioned, you can shoot up roids in the NFL or smoke some crack rock and that will give you a few game suspension. Drugs hurt alot more then gambling

I heard this same theory today on PTI.

I dismissed it then and I don't think it's true now.

Pete Rose in all likelyhood bet on not only baseball but on the Reds while he was player/coach.

My gut feeling is he bet on his team winning only from the standpoint that the guy loved his team and thought that no one could beat them. Real cojones kind of thinking. I doubt that betting against his team ever crossed his mind.

That being said, the timing is kind of odd to be coming clean with this now. Sure he has a big Bio coming out, and I think someone has finally gotten it through his headthat this country LOVES people that admit to screwing up.

Not only do I think this country will trip over it's tongue accepting this, dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn........

he'll be BACK COACHING NEXT SEASON!

The reason Pete Rose is finally admitting he gambled is because 2005 is the last year he is eligable for the Hall unless he gets voted in by existing members of the Hall. ALOT of still alive members of the hall will not vote him in, which thereby goes Option B. So Option A of admiting your faults, saying you're sorry, and getting reinstated as being his almost only sucessful option.
As to why he didn't admit it from the begining is almost fairly simple and already explained by Rose himself. He felt as if the punishment he recieved was Totally unfair and horribly outragous that he denied gambling to i guess make his case all that much more sympathetic.

Oh yeah, Rose said he NEVER betting against the Reds, only for them. Which could in fact be another lie, but i doubt it.
