Don't take everything for granted (sad story)

A few days ago my girl friend was telling me about how her 9 year old cousin was just diaganosed lukemia, I felt sympathetic, yet hopeful that kemotheraphy or something could help her.

Tonight, when I called my girl friend, she told me her cousin was in the hospital. Her cousin had a stroke, the girl said to her mother, "don't let me die mommy", as the mother was crying at her side. She has a 10% chance of living, the other possibilities are split between being in a vegatative state and death.

I was almost in tears when my g/f was finished telling me this story. All that seems that can be done is hope and pray.

This shouldn't happen to a 9 year old girl, she just began life. It makes me really think about how pathetic and small my problems in life are and makes me wish I could do more for people.

That's awful, I hope everything turns out okay. My friend had lukemia and died in 9th grade. I'm a member of some lukemia society to help get donations. I can't remember what it's called, I have all the paper work down at school.

It is a sad game that life plays with us. We turn on the tv and see nothing but crime and corruption, we see murderers walk, and rapist get off, but then we hear about a 9 year old girl getting her life taken from her all too early. She didn't get the chance to live her dreams; she didn't get the opportunities that many of us take for granted. Will she ever know what it feels like to love, will she ever know what it feels like to be free, will she ever know what it feels like to soar. It is these things that make me wonder, how can I ever complain about the weather?

Having 3 kids of my own, this kind of stuff breaks my heart. Our condolences to the family.

That's sad to hear. The family will have my prayers, and hopefully they can get through this tough time and tragedy. Hopefully the young girl has gone onto somewhere greater than we could possibly know.

My favorite aunt died of lukemia, but she at least got to live life what she loved doing most, cooking. Hearing things like this makes me want to give my money away to research to find a cure. Sorry man.
