So what does this have to do with the topic?

Please debate the topic, not the person, thank you.

I may be younger then you, but you sure are not acting like it.

Please debate the topic, not the person. And please read, your comment shows me you haven't read a post of mine in a long time.

To get this back on topic somewhat....

Hilary always did have a Holier Than Thou attitude.

Just like you, CB. When you turn a discussion from Iraq into your favorite subject of how the Palestinians are SOOO mistreated. Or looking for malfeasance of other former Presidents, as in this thread.

End of story. Fling your little "I know you are but what am I" witticisms someplace else.

I do not have an holier then thou attitude, again do not comment on me until you know me, just the ideas.

And how did that joke give her a holier than thou attitude?

FOL, why don't you look into what other presidents have done to fleece the nation of tax money after their term.
Doesn't have anything to do with taxes but just to show that the Clintons don't have the market cornered on sleaziness:

Bush Sr. joined the corporate board of Barrick, a goldmining corporation in Canada, during the mid-90s. They used his influence with foreign heads of state to acquire a mine in Tanzania worth about $3 billion. But at the time it was being worked by a couple thousand indigenous people with some type of legal claim to the mine. When the bulldozers came through without warning to clear them out, not only were homes and equipment destroyed but 50 or so workers were buried alive in a mine shaft. Not saying Bush had anything to do with this directly but you can tell alot about someone by the company they keep.

I don't usually have problems with people buying multimillion dollar mansions, except when the same people spending this money are crying they can't afford their legal fees. But I digress.

Now, being a former Philanderer in Chief, Clinton gets SS protection for life. They need to be close, so get this, the Clintons rent them the guest house on the property...

                        Here's the kicker...

The rent is EXACTLY the same amount as the mortgage on the mansion...

Apparently these same people, that said they were incapable of financial misdeeds during Whitewater, have figured out some new real estate scam that once again fleeces the tax payers of this country.

Stinks to say the least. But once gain, morals and character don't seem to have to apply to the Clintons.
Bush did cocaine, thought that's irrelevant.

I believe you, but it'd help out a lot with CB over there if you could cite that information.

Let me try to say this without upsetting anyone. First off, understand I am not a Clinton supporter - I actually went as far as to vote for Dole. I do not like Clinton, I do not beleive that he advanced long term American interests in his actions. I beleive his actions were based on polls rather than in depth consideration. I beleive a lot of the things he did were flat out wrong. I beleive NAFTA has gone a long way towards doing harm to the American economy and, if you can blame any single action on causing the current recession (you can't there are too many factors), that NAFTA would be it. It has undoubtedly cost American jobs in some of the segments that the workers were not able to readily move into a new field.

That being said, Clinton held office for eight years (though as far as this discussion goes four years is the same) and did not cause the destruction of the world. He was under immense pressure from nearly every angle over nearly every decision he made. For him to live out the rest of his days in comfort is something I beleive we, as Americans, owe the man (though I beleive the speaking fees he could get would pay any bills he could incur). Former Presidents still are a symbol to the office of the Presidency - to force him into... well having to work for a life of comfort, would diminish that office. An office that he did diminish (I beleive) but still - I beleive, in today's society, we owe our former presidents the ability to live very comfortable for the rest of their days. To do less cannot help other countries view of us.

ah but you forget the great roman guy (cant quite pinpoint his name) was made dictator and gave up the position after his duty was done (i think it was to destroy some army) and then he went back to his farm and worked and was considered a roman hero if i recall.

edit: applying that to today now that i think of it he was probably doing basically what he did now pretty much although he should be off just fine without support

Don't get me wrong, I have zero problem with past Presidents getting some perks.

However, using those same perks to further despoil the taxpaying publics largesse is flat out wrong.

                                But back on topic...

I want all you all to think how this would have been reported had Trent Lott said this. Or any other person other than Billary Clinton.

There is a HUGE double standard going on with the mainstream media in this country and it's disgusting.
