getting into sports card collecting

hey guys, i'm looking into starting a sports card collection(mainly basketball/football), what are some good sources for info? also wheres a good place to buy? are the shopping channel mass deals any good? thanks.

if you buy mass produced, pre aranged sets, they wont be worth as much, and they wont mean as much, the whole point, of collecting is that you have to search for things, and work for them. If you realy wanna get serious into collecting, just get a binder and some packs of cards and build from their, but if you just want a pretty thing to put on the wall, just buy some premade display set.

i'm getting into it cus i like collecting things and i like sports so it goes together the only reason i asked about brands is just in case there was a big difference.
