If yes to either of those, then what makes them hardcore?
Like Monkey said, it's a genre. It's really a mix between metal and punk. It's characterized by quick drum beats, with alot of bass pedal, strategically placed breakdowns (for maximum awesome), and lead singers who like to bloody their vocal chords.

Breg, haven't had a chance to listen to any of the new MPB CD, but I have been wanting to.

    Zaust, I am damn intelligent!

    Tecno, S'okay.

Traxer, ditch that crap and listen to some real music. Start with the bands listed above.

Gary posts what he wants, when he wants. He is just that cool.

Older hatebreed is better.. pick up "Under the Knife" if you don't have it... old school.

Seriously though, if you haven't heard of Converge... check them out. They gotta be the BEST band I've heard in a long time. New album "You Fail Me" comes out this year (September or so as I heard last time I saw them).

            -Death (RIP Chuck)
-Morbid Angel (Alters of Maddness, Blessed are the Sick, etc.)
-Black Dathia Murder (mis-spelled I know)
-Children of Bodom (good but there is sometalk that next record they might sell out like In Flames)
-Slayer (mainstream now but they still do good, as long as they stay away from thier NEW stuff)
            -Opeth
            -Decide
            -Dying Fetus
-Cannable Corpse (possably selling out soon though, read a very wierd interview in Metal Maniacs a while ago)
            -Lamb of God

Probably forgot a few but how could anyone forget Death!?

You decsribed that so much better than me Kai

And Opeth is Norwegain Death Metal; Not hardcore

Actually there is a miniscule chance my cousin's band may open for them

Cannibal Corpse is awsome for when im pissed or need to get pumped. I dont know if they are considered to be this type of music, but check out Turbonegro. They were on viva la bam, and they play the opening song to wildboys. There is a local band called Hack Saw To The Throat who are awesome. Another good local one is RU36.

Don't know if they were mentioned: Between the Buried and Me

no offense to anyone who likes Cradle of Filth, but for the love of god how can you like them? Seriously? The singers' pig squeels don't pass for singing in my book. Plus, they play panzy riffs and put PRS guitars to shame. And Cannibal Corpse? That guy shouldn't have a voice box anymore after all of that caveman grunting. Their stage performance is a just a blur of hair. If you guys like them, that's cool, but I personally don't think they have a lot of talent. Maybe listening to them to get pumped or work off some anger is cool, put I personally prefer hatebreed, etc. for that. Anyway, that's just me 2 cents.

Has anyone ever heard of How It Ends or Commit Suicide? Both those bands are pretty bad arse.
Death Metal, well some of it is cool. But, I really have a hard time getting into it.
