a working x config is a rite of passage for linux users. you need to tinker until you get it. choose safe refresh rates. try the generic SVGA driver.
i got mandrake 9.1 to work with a MPact 2 graphics chipset and no one, i mean no one has written a linux driver for that. so there is hope.
if you want to reinstall windoze you first need to delete the three or so partitions that linux created thus making your entire drive "unused space"Comment

It's not an XFree problem.
If you looked at his synopsis of the error message its the fact that he doesn't have the Nvidia modules loaded when he tries to run startx.
He could compile the support into his kernel, or he could load the module. With Mandrake there should be rpm's for the proper module.
Go here: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat...a%20Corp_.html
Scroll about halfway down and you'll see an rpm for Mandrake 9.X
Then go here for the drivers for XFree. http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ASP/i38...3asp.i386.html
And while this is for Mandrake 8, this howto should help: http://www.littlewhitedog.com/reviews_other_00022.asp

The download does not work for the rpm. Is there anywhere else I can get it from?
