    Windows 2000 problems.

I just installed Windows 2000, 3 times now.

the first time i didnt do it right, and thought i partitioned and formatted it right, but all my old files were still here, and that isnt what i wanted, the second time I installed it right, and formatted and whatnot, but then i installed service pack 4, and some of the other critical downloads, then it was acting up, and wouldnt let me DL anymore, it was like it would Lock up at the DL screen.

so i did it again, and before i installed my programs, i did the updates, this time i installed all the updates, but i notices some general screwyness....

i have included a pic of what seems to happen sometimes, it sometimes goes away if i refresh a bunch of times, but maybe someone can help me out. This is a legal copy of Win 2000, so its not something to do with the CD or it being illegal.

sorry i can only post BITMAP at the moment, as i dont have all my software on yet.

here is a screen-shot, lots more of this happens and i see even worse browser screwups, but it seems more on this site.

also, sometimes when i start up Internet Explorer, it says this page cannot be found, so i detect network settings, and it will pop-up all screwy. i have also noticed i tried to DL adaware, and the DL starts but doesnt seem to go any where, but that didnt happen with the service pack the 1st time, that was only the problem on Windows Updater. please let me know if you can help......

    thanks in advance,
    Casey

In my experience, this has been a bad network card. If you have an extra lying around, like any good geek would, try swapping it in.

Just a few weeks ago, I was working on a buddy's machine. I could ping it, FTP from it, etc. However, I couldn't even get Google to load via IE. In fact, I could connect to a server, but I couldn't get any data transferred. Swapped out the card and it worked immediately.

At this point, my best guess is a hardware failure.

    Hope this helps ~ Dave

With the Help of Muzikman, i have found the problem.......

first i had Norton Internet Security 2001 installed, and i guess SP4 doesnt like that.

also, i just re-installed the SP4 over top, and i guess that fixed all the problems, it seems to be working like a dream once again. muahahahahaha

thanks for your help Jonesie i also took out the ethernet card, installed it in a new port, and cleaned it all out.... no problems there.

if that browser ever looks like that again, just press F11 eheh ... common, i dare you

F11 changes IE from the 'normal' look to that screwy look you showed and back again ...

that screwy look of F11 is what i always use, it maximizes screen area, and lets me see the whole picture better. its soo much better to have a 1 cm bar, than something that takes up half the screen.
