is it possible to transfer the money from one M.O. to another without having to go to the bank and cash the M.O. and then get another money order? thanks.

No. You need to take it back to the bank you bought it from. They will stamp it "Not Used for purposes intended". They can then reissue you a replacement. However, if it was made out to yourself, you can always sign it over to a 3rd party.
