I actually don't have a problem with the French law so long as it is UNIFORMLY enforced and no one is singled out! This is kind of like the Muslim couple that Sued Florida to allow the wife to wear her veil in her license photo. They lost by the way!

Veil thing makes sense, they need to be properly identifiable

But this doesn't piss me off it just seems stupid to me. It is a piece of clothing, it is not going to hurt anyone. All it does is allow everyone to express their heritage. Just because they aren't wearing something that proclaims them this or that, doesn't all of a sudden mean that they are going to become less religious.

There was a similar situation here in the UK back in the seventies as the Sikh's lobbied the goverment to allow them to wear their turbans (I 'm sure there is a correct name but that's the only one I know) and not wear a crash helmet when riding motorbikes...they lost.

why are the muslims so easy to rile up? the ban also includes jewish and christian stuff but they arnt marching in the streets. good solid muslims need to understand their postition in the current events and work through that. while not every person that wears a head scarf is a potential human bomb, you dont hear about very many people with a cross around their necks blowing themselves up at the crowded cafe either.

Not allowing hats in public schools I don't have any problem with. But when it comes to an issue of religion exeptions should be made to a certain extend. Meaning that the student body cannot all decide to create a religion that requires wearing hats, but muslims, jews, or any other organized religion that requires hats should be allowed unless it somehow jepordizes the saftey of that person or persons around them.

This suprises me. The French have had to do a carefull balanceing act all through this Iraq thing partly because they have a huge Muslim population... and now they take a thing that really doesn't matter and make it a battering ram! No telling why this would be. I see no reason these people cannot wear scarves. Not at all. They do here in America. And no one goes after that. Nor secular jews etc. As long as it doesn't do something like a veil would hide identity in a photo or a wearing a helmet where required it breaks no other law. Its a different thing than those other examples do. According to this they would not be able to wear turbans or veils or scarves or ANYTHING anytime in public. I just got no idea why they want to enforce something like that. Seems undemocratic to me.... Oh wait! Maybe they aren't really?

is far as i read it, the law just covers public schools. not being in public. i guess this is similar to the no prayer in school issue here.

Reminds me of the banning of flannel shirts when I was in high school. Their logic was just as dumb. They thought they were gang colors...even though it was a 99% white suburban high school and there were no gangs other than the local shriners and rotary club.

My school had the greatest, the whole school had to sit though this lecture on how we shouldn't sterotype people.
Then at lunch the vice princible comes up to me and tells me I cannot wear a short sleeve shirt over a long sleeve shirt because its a skater thing and skaters represent drugs.
Why are some people just so damn stupid.

when i was in high school we couldnt wear shirts that had mickey mouse on them. supposedly the local gangs started to wear mickey because they felt that the schools wouldnt ban them. i guess the gangs figured wrong.

this law is not about banning clothing from one group btw, its about banning all religious clothing from all religions in school.

This whole thing makes me laugh! The Muslims demand equality wherever they go, but will not reciprocate in their countries.

Saudi's cry racism here, yet in their own country, foreign workers are not allowed to worship unless Muslim! Well guess what, what goes around comes around, so I hope they suffer!

As for the Florida case it was upheld as public safety trumps religious freedom. The courts said that driving is a privlege, not a right so if she wanted a license, she must comply with the law!

Tell you what. France has the largesat Muslim population in Europe. It is growing and becoming more radical. France had better watch out or find itself destroyed from within.

Lesson to the U.S., we need to shut down our borders. Legal immigration is fine and needed. Illegal immigration is not! We already have a case of a Hamas fundraiser sneakin into the US via Mexico. What if he was a bomber and not a fund raiser. We need to start getting very strict.

What was that bill called that Bush was tring to pass that allowed illegal's to obtain work visa's in the U.S.?

I don't see what the big problem is about being allowed to wear a scarf on your head for religious purposes. As long as you are not creating a danger(directly or indirectly) to yourself or others.
