if you try and flash the BIOS and it fails, the worst thing that could happen is your motherboard go poopoo and not even turn on, no message, nothing.

WHOA WHOA WHOA.... stop taking the hammer to fix a thumtac issue.

When you get the error go ahead and go into the BIOS seup and save your changes. This will put an end to that message.

There is no need to flash the bios etc at this point.

If you really want to flash the bios you need to make a bootable flopy. Instructions for setting this up should be on your vendor's website.

If you have any specific questions feel free to hit me up. Good luck with the new machine! :)

BTW... if you continue to have that message after saving the BIOS settings try swaping out the CMOS battery. This sort of thing is rarly an actual bios issue. I'd have to slap the fool that let that thing out the door where you actualy had to flash every single one.

Basically the mobo manual says to flash the BIOS. So I'm taking it this is not the correct route to go?

Never flash anything unless absolutly neccicary. It could very well be the correct route, however I would try the things I listed first.

When you get the screen it should say F1 to continue and Del to setup or something like that. Do the setup and then do F10 to exit saving changes. This should resolve your issue. Basicaly the CPU is different that the last saved settings... which had no CPU.

I find it VERY hard to beleve that ASUS would allow boards to make it to the stores with that sort of flaw. Also I did not see anything on the site mentioning that sort of fix... which leads me to beleve that the basics will resolve your issue.

On the 9800 manual it says to install the drivers before butting it in the PC. I didn't do this. Would it cause a problem?

uhh i doubt it...in fact i've never heard that before about anything...think about it...say you reformat your HD...the drivers get wiped out...and you reinstall the drivers, with the vid card still in....ppl do it all the time. shouldn't be a problem.
