This was posted on one of the other message boards I frequent. Someone got this shot of that Thunderbird that crashed a few months back. No one, including the pilot was hurt, but it was a close call.
Pretty cool pic

I don't believe it's photoshopped but I find it hard to believe that the guy who snapped the photo was as close and in the general direction the Thunderbird was heading. I've been to a few flight shows and first thing they do is basically close off wherever they think or know the planes will be flying, that way no one does get hurt. It looks from the angle that the guy was almost RIGHT in front of the plane and pretty darn close to it as well. It's just hard to photoshop all the smoke and everything, especially with the fire and cockpit open.Comment

I was curious about this one and found these links.

And here
The first link has that picture in the story and a link to the cockpit camera from takeoff to the ejection at the bottom of the article.Comment

Wow, that video is amazing... obviously the guy really knew what he was doing, ejecting only .8 seconds before impact!!!!

One of them probably this one http://www.f-16.net/f-16_photos_album04-photodis.html was photoshopped. Look at the ground, one has it looking brown and the other is green.

Yeah. I think it is photoshopped too.
Two reasons. First the canopy should be way behind the plane and in the pic it is right above.
Here is a snapshot from the in-cockpit video...see how far the canopy is behind the pilot and he isn't even out of the cockpit yet. I the chopped pic, he is all the way out of the plane.
Second reason....in the video, none of those spectators and cars can be seen. Remember, this is a split s maneuver so you aren't seeing the same area until the end of the video.

I don't think its photoshopped. If you watch the video, it cuts out before the pilot is out, explaining why you don't see the crowd.
As for the canopy position, remember its designed to get out of the way as fast as possible.
As for the brown or green ground, who knows how many times the pic has been cropped/adjusted by whoever posts it. The original version I found was a BMP.
We do know this was a real event, at a public airshow, with thousands of people with cameras, someone got a really good shot.
There is always a chance it was a PS job, but I think in this case its probably a real photo.

Beam u make a very good point, and the point about the cars probably caused me to believe that the pic is photoshoped. the issue witht he canopy isnt that convincing to me because it is really hard to tell any type of depth in the first pic, i have no idea where the canopy is in relation to the pilot/plane.
Other than that man that guy looks calm in that video b4 ejectiong, I mean u cant see his face but just his body movements are very calm and not freaking out like.
That video is very very cool.

i wasn't saying the ejection was fake..it just looks like the whole jet/smoke/etc looks plastered onto the backdrop...scuse me for voicing my OPINION. i didn't even say it was photoshopped, i said it looks photoshopped. i don't doubt it happened at all (duh), i'm just saying the pic looks kinda fake.
edit- just saw the video..wow
