Curious, who still uses a 56k?

I use 56K - no cable, no cable tv, no trash service where I live (I have to haul it into town). My closest neighbor is 1/4 mile away so I'm not high on any of these service things offered by anyone - it kinda sucks. Starband is the only two way satellite offered by anyone I know of and its reliability is highly questionable. Then again, I can walk onto my deck to go deer or turkey hunting - though I have an old John Deere 30/20 crawler so I can clear my driveway when it snows. The creek is nice and I have caught some trout in it. I guess theres trade-offs for everything I WANT HIGH SPEED INTERNET.

BTW - Verizon did offer to run me DSL for a slight charge of $2 million dollars, I had to decline, was running a little short that week LMAO. It seems the nearest highspeed ends about 8 miles away and there is a expressway to cross between here and there which is a major issue.

Wow, 56k, those were the days. I currently have a 1.5/384 DSL line, though my DSL company offered me 6.0/608 for less than I pay now. I can even imagine what that will be like.

other than your bill being smaller you wont notice anything. i just went from a 500 cable to a 2meg cable because, like you, it was being offered for a cheaper price. i saw exactly zero change in any page loads or dl speeds. so much is dependant on other factors besides your connection to your isp. while speeding up that connection helps quit a bit, it wont always improve your dl speeds. but i say always save some cash!

for game hosting yes, its wonderful. however i dont host as many games as i once did so its not that big a deal. i am saving about 15 bucks a month on my cable so thats good enough for me.
