What would happen if you pitted two deep blue computers against eachother in a chess game? Would it end in a stale mate?

Deep Blue would win. Some games would probably end in a stalemate. It really depends on how they are programed.

there would be no winner, necessarily. let's do the best case scenario, which is that there is only one BEST possible move per turn for each side. that means, there is only one outcome of the game, because both computers will always pick the best possible move. even if computer A goes first, computer B will already be predicting that move b/c it is the best possible move.

that's a hard assumption to make, though...that there is only one BEST move per turn. but it makes sense, if both computers are thinking ahead, predicting the entire game, they will BOTH try to achieve the same game, meaning they will be just following a premade game basically. i don't think i explained this very well but that's ok.

it used to be the most powerful supercomputer in existence (i think). it isn't anymore...by far...but deep blue beat the world chess champion back in 1997, sooo deep blue is infamously good at chess :P.

edit- it was created solely for playing chess, in an attempt to have it learn, i'd assume. here's an interesting article about intelligence and whether or not Deep Blue thinks about chess any differently than grandmaster's brains (on the unconscious level):

little more thought...... and changing my mind again

the computer was programed with information about the human player... past games and how he played them. He actually beat the computer at least once if i recall correctly.

If you program both computers to assume that the opponate will choose the best move per turn... it will end stalemate.

it would be random....if it was alays equal then chaos theory would be wrong (i am not saying its right), they might be a hell of a lot of draws...but every once in a awhile one computer would beat another. computers can make mistakes....

I think it would result in a nuclear explosion killing everyone in a ~500 mile radius. That or it would be a stalemate.



And what exactly is the Chaos Theory? Heard about it before, just never took te time to look it up.

I liked the whole nuclear explosion theory.. and he who says computers can make mistakes is somewhat wrong. A computer will only make a "mistake" if it is programmed to do so. which in turn is to say that man makes mistakes. But if you were to pit two perfect identical programs against eachother I believe you would see the same game repeat forever. Unless a variable start were programmed in. Then the outcome would be variable.. This is to say that the programs will do what they are programmed to do. Or maybe they would Encapsule everyone who was watching at the time to draw body heat for more power. Then you would need a super hacker to stop the epic battle that would ensue between man and machine. Wow, you could make a movei about that
