weird monitor flickering

my old pc's monitor used to do this too, and my older mac's monitor used to do this too...so there's something not going right. i get this weird flickering of the image every so often. with my mac, it went completely blue eventually. with my pc, it just does this flickering (which lowered after i cleaned the case out)...and now my new comp/monitor is doing it sometimes. could dust be causing it? or an overheating video card? or what?

best way to describ the flickering is like...faint blue lines go across the screen and then go away...making the image look like it flickers for a second.

If its a pc try this... go to the desktop right click on the background .. select propertys... then to the settings tab.. then the advanced button on the bottom... click the monitor tab and then bump the refresh rate to something higher than 60 .. 70 would be better.

If that dosent help check the other side of the wall for a circut breaker or anything else that could be causing interfeirance.

hit the monitor on the side. always worked for me. but thats my way of fixing everything.

already at 85 for my refresh rate...
as for a circuit breaker..i'm in a dorm so i doubt there's anything that could be causing interference.

Loose video card plug does that.

A dying video card can do it as well.

Maybe someone sprinkled tiny chunks of magnet into your monitor? We did that to some kid once in the dorms. Drove him crazy.

lol.. yeah it could be magnetic bits ..that would most certianly do it.

Move it to a totaly different location and see if it improves. You never know whats in that wall, especialy in a dorm. Power lines etc can all casue electrical interfeirance which will do this to you.

cept the lines just started appearing...but today they haven't showed up once...maybe it was because i left my computer on for two days? i dunno...

Yeah you'll need to either:

1. move the monitor away from whatever it is near (even the magnetic field created by something as small as a desktop fan can really cause a noticable flicker, even 3-4 feet away)

2. get a new/different monitor that you know doesn't flicker, and plug it in.

It could be hardware, but its much cheaper/easier to just move the thing for a little while.


Oh and I just re-read your original post. I had a 17" monitor go totally blue once. Just moving the cord where it goes into the adapter that plugs into the graphics card would fix the problem.

That happened to my old moniter, then my screen eventually turned purple(wtf?) and I got tired of it and got this nice new monitor

Mine happened at random also. You'd think "some wires are loose, it shouldn't happen then go away", but it does.

I finnally used electrical tape and taped the cord in such a position that it stayed on.

Then I bought a new monitor
