Why is Rod Stewart trying to become Frank Sinatra?

Or even Tony Bennet. he doesn't even come close to them! He is embarassing in trying too. He has this Oboe player that looks like a stipper with him. And he is failing miserably at trying to be even a night club singer. He is on Leno now.

Has he sunk to this low that he has to try and do what he cannot? Sad really....

It's the very last segment on the show. But trust me he does not have the voice to do the old crooner stuff he is trying to push on a new album. Tony Bennet runs circles around him. I have seen Tony in concert. But that Maggie May voice of Rods just cannot sing that stuff he is trying to do now. Poor Rod. He has lost it. The Oboe player is kinda hot though. A little slutty but hot! She can lap dance me anytime!

yep and as crappy as you think of him, his one night of stage performance would probably pay for your kids education, your truck including all your expensive add-ons etc etc. Not doing too shabby. Asides from him diggin guys (yuck) he has probably had more punanie than this whole board combined.

My Mom loves that "Great American Songbook" CD that Rod put out where he sings all those old songs.
I think it sucks anyway, but the fact that she loves it and plays it in the car constantly makes me hate it EVEN MORE!!!
Him singing these songs is even more embarassing than when he did crap like "Hot Legs", and "If you think I'm sexy".
If you want a reminder of how great he once was go back and listen to the album "Every Picture Tells A Story".
It's sad what he's become, but I'd sing those cover tunes too if I could, and they payed me as well as he gets payed!

She should just buy some Tony Bennet then

Who said I hated him? You apparently missed my point. I hate to see him degrade himself by signing something he does not have the voice for. Heck even Johnny Cash did it and it sucked! You gotta stick to the kind of songs you can do and not try to be so dam lame as do something you cannot. He just does not have that kind of voice to carry it off. It makes me feel sad for him is all. That music sucks when he does it. There are plenty of songs for his voice.

good old Rod the Mod...Maybe he has popped too many blues in the 60's.

I havn't actually heard any of his new stuff, but was thinking about seeing him when he hits Pittsburgh. I was never a huge Rod Stewart fan, but he does have some great songs.

I think most musicians hit a point in their career where they think they can do anything, and even if they can't they will still sell albums and tour well. He is probably doing because he enjoys it and doesn't really care if his fans like it or not. This has happened many times in the past and although it's sad, musicans tate in music can change to the point where they hate their old songs. Rod has given us 40 years of music, let him have his fun now
