A classic willy's jeep. Thinking about buying one

For some reason, I think I fell in love with the old ww2 era willy's jeep. I consider myself a military historian and I would like to get to know cars better. I am looking at civilian post ww2 model cj3b. It looks like it is moderate condition w/ military paint. The guy is selling it for 1500. Well just wanted to ask what yall thought.

those things are soooooo fun. i know a guy that lives in WI and hes got 2. we take them out in the woods and mess around on the trails. its very fun. but if there not in good condition you have to put some work into them. i would say go for it.

May Father has one, '44 or '42, its pretty cool. Its in really good condition and it worked up until about a year or two, nothing big though just a fuel pump.

They're fun to have though, quite the climbers.

Get him to fix that pump. Yeah those things are cool but for $1500 you better know how to repair rot, and do lots of other work

hell yea get that thing. I used to have a '48, it was sweet! I ended up ruining it. I lifted it 6 inches, put a pretty well built small block in it with an auto tranny and ran my poor 38 inch tires bald. The old origional running gear is tough as can be, but if you start swappin parts, you should really swap it all. Small block with some power, and the stock rear end, not such good bed fellows. Good luck,

I have fond memories of those. It's the first car I ever drove. Kinda what I learned to drive in. It had a flat head 4, 3 speed tranny and was pretty good 4 wheeling. Even ran well on no oil!

Do it!! A guy in my hometown had one for sale...I was gonna buy it, till I saw how he had it "stored". Out back, top off, no cover!!! And, in New England, that will eat a car alive! If I find one again, I may pick it up. They dont move too fast...but they ARE head turners. Good luck!

                            get one

Get one get one get one. check out a hemmings motor news. Im sure you can find one in it. Old Jeep owners are like mag owners, they know a good thing when they see it and dont care what the current trend is. They have friends that even screw with them about what they drive, but just like a mag, when nothing else goes a jeep will. Mine broke a drive shaft on the interstate last week, I pulled it out of the tranfer case and drove the rest of the way home over 100 miles. Cost me 9 bucks for a new U joint and 12 buxksd to have it pressed in, took about 10 min to reinstall it...Get one

Flat fenders are great, I wouldnt want it as a everyday driver. I had a 53, it wouldnt do much over 45 mph without feeling like you were pushing it.
If you are gonna do one, id say keep it original. If you want to modify a Jeep get a newer one.
