i'm looking at some hi-res pictures now. my conclusion is that the color is natural and doesn't match the lines from where the spiderweb of lines. therefore either the pasty is clear/translucent (kinda pointless) or the pasty got ripped off and what you see is leftover glue.

And yes... CBS completely raped the Superbowl. They took WAY too many opportunities to pimp out their own lineup. I hope they don't get it next year.
