    pop-up bombardment. help!!

One of my computers has recently been bombarded with spyware and pop-up ads and it has slowed the computer way down. There is a program that downloaded itself called n-CASE. I think it is the program that is causing all the pop-ups because it is offering me "online shopping opprotunities". Anyway, I cannot uninstall it without downloading the uninstaller from the n-CASE website. Do you know any way to get it off my computer or disable it without downloading anything more? Or has anyone ever heard of n-CASE, or can offer any advice to remedy the flood of ads?
    thanks

        get yourself this program

        Spybot Search & Destroy

its freeware with the option to donate if you like it
and is not anooying about it at all unlike some shareware ones...

it does a really good job of gettin rid of adware/spyware and the likes... and is smartenough to ignore most appletes that you use that do have some adware in them... ie weatherbug so it will say hey you have this too but i know it is part of the program and will leave it alone

now for pop up blocking.... either use mozilla/netscape and tell it to block.... or for ie go get the google tool bar... it has a great popup blocker, is free and myself i love having a spot to seach from w/o opening up a page for a search engine

        hope that helps ya out

Stop using IE. Get a browser that blocks spyware and pop-ups. Omni, Opera, Chimera or any Mozilla variant.

Thats all you need. Run it like 2x a week, update it regularly, and you're good.

I also have norton Internet security, together, they are unstoppable!

I have evil spyware that only does something when I restart my computer. It changed my damn home page and puts porn links in my favorites. To top it off, the sites it adds suck

I just got spybot, it found a few thing adaware missed, I would try both of them.

yes spybot is superior to adware, so that is all I use now.

Ok, I used spybot and it got rid of most of it and helped my computer a ton. It now functions much faster and I don't get more than a few normal pop-ups from web sites. When I have time I will get a new browser too.
                      thanks guys

I have the best solution, back up your important stuff and reformat. You'll be suprised at how nice everything runs. Probably better than when you first got it if you bought something like a dell.

Ya, I am planning on doing that, but the disc doesn't work because I installed windows XP. I called the help line and it looks like it will take some tweaking to get things to work. The spybot worked much better than expected, so maybe I won't have to reformat.
