Well an old Ninja 500 is a great starter bike. Or maybe a Honda Rebel?

Are you looking for speed, looks, or ease of riding?

My first street bike was a Ninja ZX-6. FUn, but way too fast for me.

Ok glad someone brought this back up.... Because I sat on the perfect bike... for me anyway... this weekend.

I have never just sat down on a bike and felt one just fit my arse and balance this well in my life. I was totaly shocked. I was sold... until I looked and saw it was a 250cc! Now why would they put a 250cc in a V twin Cruiser!!!! ARGGGGG. I mean this frame was perfect. And pretty big to but low slung and fit SOOOOOO Nice. I was like "I want one!" till I knew the displacement. So then I got to doing some research. Seems they made this bike in a 535 up until 2001. So the same frame and all but a displacement I can live with. So I am thinking I am going to watch for one used to come up and around.

Now plenty of people swear this thing in a 250 is a perfect first bike. But then so plenty of them are up for sale too because of that. Many learn on them and then sell them so there are plenty of them in 250cc out there for sale. And a few come up in 535. If you short like me you really should go to your Yamaha dealer and sit on this frame so you can see what I am talking about. 3500 bucks new by the way.

The Virago 250 and the one I want the 535 is the same frame. However the 250 is auto tension chain and the 535 is shaft drive

For newer bikes, take a look at: Yamaha Seca II, Suzuki Bandit 600S, Nighthawk 750, or the Suzuki SV650.

For older bikes, consider: Honda Nighthawk 550/650/700, Honda Shadow (almost any displacement), Suzuki GS540/650, and the Yamaha Viragos.

Hehe. You have to understand, he has something like 20 project bikes. He's working on a 197x CB900 Super Sport, an 88' Super Magna, and a very crashed 98 ZX7R at the moment. His collection mainly consists of early to late 80s Japanese bikes ranging from 90 to 1100ccs.

get atleast 500cc you can get a 600-700 cc and not have to much trouble
ive seen people start on 900cc

find a scooter and bring that for the test the test is alot easier on a scooter than a bike

What a wussy cop out. If you can't pass the skills test on your primary bike, than you need a different bike.

i would get a sv-650 they look pretty good,there quick and handle very well.

When I bought my first bike I found a steal of a deal on a '03 650 V-Star that had been rear-ended and rebuilt. I'd reccomend the 500-700cc range like most have.

I also second the riders ed course. It counts for your liscense here in OK might check that out in GA.

Now if only I wasn't so lazy I wouldn't have it for sale.
