    Computer help needed(video problems)

    Well, my computer is starting to act up right now, and the video is all messed up. It wont let me change the video settings from 16 colors, and the lowest screen area. I'm sure the active desktop is set, but is wont let me change it. any help would be appreciated. (I'm running 98 se)

    update your drivers.

      If you have tried all the restarts and tried to reset the colour depth then delete the drivers (if you have specific not generic drivers) and then delete the graphics card from device manager and restart the machine and follow the prompts to reinstall the drivers. Don't do this if you don't have the disks though.

        or you can just download the driver exe files from the website.

          got it fixed thanks guys. i also have one more little problem. the screen shows "shadows" on it. like when there writing, it has little light bars behind it on the screen. does anyone know what i'm talking about?

            Sounds like your monitor is on the way out or it can be caused by a bad signal cable or the cable near a power cable or even your graphics card is dying...happens.
            Oh and how did you fix your problem...saying it now works don't help anyone else who may have the same problems and as you got 2 ways of doing something to fix it....I ain't looking for praise or condemnation but the knowledge that one way or the other worked would be good

              i just deleted the old driver and re-installed it.

              And what did you mean "on the way out." do you mean its dieing?

                  Dude....if your still on 98se you need to update. A legitmate copy of windows doesnt cost that much....esp. 2000 which is a great os

                    ya, i know. i had xp on it, then my hard drive crapped out, and i wanted to put on 98 instead. i just seem to like it more.

                    And Damn. i love this moniter. 19 inches of pure love. oh well, i guess i'll have to get an lcd screen.
