    Need Webcam advice ...

    Hey all ... need some advice on some webcams.

    I am probably going to be out of town for three months on work, and would love to be able to have a webcam setup for my computer at home and one for my laptop so that I can talk to my kids and see them at the same time.

    So right now what is the best buy for;

    A -- A webcam to used with a PC.
    B -- A webcam to used with a laptop ...

    Thanks,

    Aaron

    As long as you have a high speed connection, the Creative Labs cams seem to the the best for the buck. Also, the Yahoo messanger is the best one-on-one client I have used (avoid MSN). The image is not that large, but it's cheap (free), easy and fast.

      Yeah I have the "Platinum" level cable connection (which means I get to sound really cool to my friends) ... so connection speed is no problem. The hotel I will be staying at offers wireless broadband also, and it gets decent connection rates.

      I used to have CL cam about 5 years ago and I remember them not being that good ... then again that was when low-end webcams were becoming popular. I am sure they are better now.

      I will check those out when I get back into town.

        Well, for a while there some of us AOers were playing around with web cams using iVisit (that software now sucks) and of all the users, I had one of the better looking and fastest refresh rate cams. It's an older, not 5 years old, but older Creative Labs.

          Yahoo crashes all the goddamn time with the webcam, though. If it weren't for that maybe I'd endorse it.

            We have great little ones here between our shop and offices that we communicate with all the time. Work flawlessly. But they are all Apple iSights using iChat. So thats probably not an option for you.

                the original is hard to find but is easily the single best webcam ever made.

                    that is indeed the one. it's amazing how this camera has become the single most favorite web cam used for astrophotography.
