Well I'm in the a market for a new vehicle and was browsing online looking for my next vehicle. I noticed that yahoo auctions and ebay have auctons for vehicle listed. Has anyone had experience buying a vehicle through an auction like this? Is it worth it?

Theoretically, yes. Typically, I hope so. Last time we did it, no.
Bought an SLS Seville from a dealer in Florida, supposed to be a mint, low-mileage car. Paint was horrible, fenders repainted, scratches all over hood and bumpers, poor body repair (supposedly had never been in an accident.) Found records from past 2 owners (supposedly a 1 owner car.) Solenoid in shifter was broken. Paperwork did not come with car as was supposed to, seller would not send it untit positive feedback was left. eBay was notified, many phone calls e-mails and letters, nothing was done. Got rid ofthat car in a hurry, traded it in at a local dealer.
Am I saying all auto auctions are like this? Not at all. Just be careful. Good luck!- There's no replacement for displacement.

I would never buy a car without spending some quality time behind the wheel... so buying one on an internet auction (unless you're talking a parts car or something to restore) is out of the question. I will look online and see if they're local, but I'll go and look at it and do the deal face to face.
I certainly don't think every auto auction is a scam, but cars are fickle beasts and sometimes you need to get to know them personally. The car may be mint, but it may make a small squeek when you turn the steering wheel. Will the auction tell you about that squeek? Probably not. Will it drive you nuts? You bet.
That's why I like to know what I'm getting into.

If you buy a car like that, make sure that before you bid the owner will let you go and personally check out the car. Make sure to do a Carfax and all other test online before viewing the car. When you go meet the person, go to the dealer or a well known mechanic and get the car inspected. Make sure that the mechanic is certified to fix the car you bring them, you don't want to bring a Ferrari to a Ford certified mechanic. Make sure that you get a chance to drive it on the highway as well as in an urban area. Inspect the car yourself for paint imperfections, wear and tear, weather the tires are good or not, road rash on the rims, door dings, scratches, and make sure to look undernieth the car too. Be sure all windows, doors, seatbelts, radio, guages, buttons, seats, and everything else works.Red to Black Ironman Intimidator
