    You are correct:

GM's Third Recall In Week Hits Corvettes

    POSTED: 4:52 p.m. EST February 10, 2004

General Motors will recall 127,000 Chevrolet Corvettes, various sources reported Tuesday.

A device in the steering column of the sports car is supposed to lock the steering when the ignition is off. The locked steering also cuts off the supply of gasoline.

However, a failure in the locking mechanism can allow fuel to flow with the steering still locked, meaning the car could be driven but not turned.

The recall affects cars from the 1997-2004 model years.

GM said that is has not received any complaints from car owners about the problem.

This month, the auto maker has already said it plans to fix problems in more than 2.4 million vehicles. Earlier SUV and passenger recalls dealt with a problem that can lead to overheating and fires in the ignition system and possibly faulty wiper blades.

Corvette owners will be notified sometime between April and June and asked to bring the cars in for repairs.

It's not that foriegn cars don't have these kind of problems, it's that they won't fix the mistake and make a recall.

          mitsubishi aside,
most japanese cars dont have defects that are so wide spread, i.e took them forever to figure out they HAD a problem, and its never something easy like a check engine light. It always seems that US cars have these recalls that ride the edge of impending doom!

lexus, and infinity's aside, japanese cars dont have anything that could go wrong. there is nothing to go wrong with a jap car, cause theres not much there. only recently have japanese cars been considered "contenders" with american and european cars. the corvette and 99.9 % of japanese cars have NOTHING in common. and if you want to talk about whos cars are better than whos, the europeans, specificly the germans and italians kick everyones ***. il take the cars of Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz, Ferdinand Porsche,Enzo Ferrari,Ferruccio Lamborghini and Karl Rapp over Soichiro Honda, Jujiro Matsuda and Kiichiro Toyoda.but yet again you will notice. they are completely differant species and shouldnt be compared, see where im going with this...

but ya us manufactures need to shape up or they are done

The auto industry is so integrated now that bigotry and xenophobia is just stupidity.

All the new chevy's are made by DAEWOO the Korean manufacturer GM bought.

The Mazda 3, Volvo sedan, and Ford Focus share something like 40% of their parts.

And any one who thinks Italian cars rule, well you've never been stuck in a Panda or laughed at a Multipla.

              Or Innocentis!

Decent German cars are relatively recent as well ...
