New AIM virus

My friend just got a new AIM virus that automatically sends links to people on his buddy list without him knowing... and the link infects other machines.

I'm pretty sure thats what happens anyway... if someone could provide a fix, or a website to a fix it will be much apreciated.

download the latest security patch for windows, seemed to fix things for me.

if that doesn't work, i dunno what to tell you.

stupid me fell for it when my friend sent it to me, actually installed the software and everything. but i uninstalled it, and got the security patch, and i haven't sent anyone any links.

ya that sux really bad, my cusins friend clicked it and then it automadicly sent it to him and it sent to me and i clicked it now i donno if it is sending it to other people.

does it infect your comp if you just click the link but dont install the software? Cause I clicked it but didnt install the software, and today my comp has been acting a little wierd.

I don't know if it installs the software on your computer... by clicking that link, people on your buddy list will be sent IM's with the link in it... without you knowing... I'm pretty sure.

Don't you need to download it in order for it to give you the virus?

There were lots of virus's that went around in peoples profiles that you would just click and it would infect. Don't you remember the "Whoooah check this out" virus? It forced AOL to update Instant Messenger JUST so they could put the message "Links may contain virus's or Trojans" in the profile window.

Oh so sorry...I was just trying to help. suggesting to start using that instead of AIM. but alright.

i clicked on it but nuthin happened. put yourself on ur buddy list so you get the message if you do happen to get the virus

Yeah I got that, you have to actually play the game for it to install. To get rid of it just go to add/remove programs and uninstall it, I forget the name of the program though, buddyshare or somthing like that.
