Anyone know anything about fretless guitars? I know fretless basses are sort of common. I'm thinking about gettin some cheapo guitar when I get my tax return and removing all the frets. Anyone ever done that? I just think it would be cool.

Not impossible... wouldn't it basically be the same as a cello or any "classic" stringed instrument? Takes a little more musical skill, that's all.

Umm,you don't need any more than that.Originally posted by gimp
yeah, obviously it would be hard to play chords. On the other hand, you wouldn't be limited to what the 24 frets given you.
There's a reason that they are so unpopular.A Chello,Bass or Violin only has 4 strings, almost never play cords made up of more than 2 strings and have action so high, that it would be almost unplayable at guitar tensions.
Basically it's pointless, offers nothing to gain and is more than a few steps backwards.
But I say GO FOR IT!!

I was bored, as since ive taken a few courses, i decided to take this old peicer guitar, and de-fret it. Its actually quite fun to play, you can get some really nice soundin tones, but you have to set the bridge and nut. But it is pretty fun. Just make sure you do it right, and fill the holes with some sort of epoxy.Comment
