    New OS

Hey, I was just curious if there were any user friendly free OS's out there that I might be able to download. I feel like trying something new, and want to see if a good discussion of Os's could be brought up.

    Thanks

I'm getting SLAX right now, it's the live version of Slackware. Or there's Knoppix & Knoppix-STD, PHLAK, SuSE, Mandrake, FreeBSD, etc.

Then there's MenuetOS , it boots of a floppy, kinda interesting.

I've used redhat and that is pretty easy to set up, i've heard mandrake and suse are pretty good also. Im not sure about how user friendly they will be as linux is a lot different then windows. No matter what you choose you will still need to spend some time learning how to use the os.

I'm with you. An experianced DOS user could navagate a PC far faster than anything with a GUI. Plus I used to write crazy batch text adventures in DOS Edit.

Plus all of the best games come from the DOS era; Starcontroll II, Duke Nukem', Barbarian! Oh yeah, I'm plugging in my old 12 mhz 286 when I get home.

sigh i remember those old days. It was amazing when i upgraded from my old Dual 5 1/2 inch floopy with no HD to my Tandy 2000 that finally had the huge HD of 200mb....Cyrstal Cave, Wolfenstien, all the old games i had on floopy, and still do.

I have a 386 in the other room I was playing with before. DOS is how I learned how to read.
