That is awesome! I know the major reason I hear from some military guys as to why the M4 "sucks" is because of the barrel getting too hot too quickly, among other things.
It looks like HK is taking a weapon that seemed like it was a good idea but didn't turn out well, and is taking out all the bad features while keeping with the original intent of the weapon.
I've never shot an HK weapons before, but they don't have the rep as one of the world's best arms manufacturers for no good reason. I'm sure our boys in Iraq would LOVE to have these puppies in their hands, considering the extreme conditions they're fighting in, they don't need to also be fighting their gun as well as the terrorist insurgents AND the climate.

The original M4 is not as bad as some people make it out to be. I worked for the FBI in the Firearms Training Unit as a gunsmith, and I have done work on, and fired the M4. Its a good weapon, that's why the DEA issues it over the FBI standard HK MP5. As long as the barrel is not cut too short, the M4 functions very well. The problems come in when the barrel is cut short. However, its nice to see HK bring their own version of the M4 to the market. I am sure it will be a quality product.
