Ive got great news, I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance

I just discovered a great little deal State Farm insurance has for being away at college, which lowers my rates from 2200 a year to 1200 a year. Being 18, driving a camaro and living in NY on long island to make things even better thats pretty good. To top things off, at the same time I learned that if I got a Z28 my insurance rates wouldn't go up, and that I can get all the tickets I want and it won't affect my insurance rates. GO STATE FARM!

I'm really finding it hard to believe that any insurance company would not raise the rates for an 18yr old driving a Z28. Especially if they got tickets. It might not go up this year, but when they reviewed your record for your next years insurance it would.

Think about it, if there was a company that let teenagers drive sports cars without fear of tickets increasing the premium, every parent out there would be signed up.

I just called them an asked, i'm a little shocked myself. I told them just that, I said somthing like so i can get a faster car, get tickets, and my rates won't go up at all? They said no. I know it seems really odd.

Thats cause your rates already rediculously high as it is! 1100-1200 every 6 months is like SR22 insurance level is here. Thats the High Risk rate they have. I think I pay about 450 every 6 months for my kid as it is. And thats after one wreck.

No seriously I had heard something about this. A college reduction plan for the time your car was not being driven. I need to look into this next year for my Kid. He can't even have his car on Campus then so why should I pay for it all year. Makes sense in that case to me.

considering he's an 18 yr old male, with speeding tickets, various accidents, and he drives a "sports car," he is hardly paying out the nose already. i paid more than that and i have ZERO tickets, ZERO accidents, and i drive a v4 89 dodge dynasty. it's because new york sucks, and it also sucks to be an 18 yr old male in NY.

and about state farm, pyro. they leave a huge loophole. your rates will not go up if you get tickets/etc...you will be kicked from their coverage. simple as that. your rates don't go up cuz you will be denied insurance from them. that's how state farm works .

I won't be denied coverage because i'm under my fathers plan which is 3 cars, 3 drivers, and homeowners. My father has one ticket in like 20 years, my stepmother has one in the last 10 years, and they have never had a claim on the homeowners, so they are making a nice little profit . Plus ill take a defensive driving course or somthing to get rid of the points, insurance companies like to see that.

I'm talking per year numbers, so its 600 every 6 months or 1200 per year.
                      1. I started out with a clean license paying 2750 per year (minimum covereage, no theft or liability). This is after a discount for having taken drivers ed.
                      2. Then I took some defensive course and got an RS camaro which is apperently a safer car than the ford explorer, it went down to 2200 a year. I got into one accident in it that was actually reported I was rear ended and 0% my fault so my insurance co could care less since they didn't have to pay anything. Then I smashed up the camaro again, that one they knew about.
                      3. Then I bought my grand cherokee my rates went to 2000 a year because it had 4 wheel ABS and a passenger airbag
                      4. Bought the camaro I have now, rate went up to 2200 a year again
                      5. Got awsome discount, rate went down to 1200/yr. Got said speeding ticket which will not affect my rates.

I have friends paying over 3000 a year for there insurance, so yes i'm getting raped with these rates, but much less so than alot of other people. I think my parents pay like 800 a year for full coverage on there fairly new cars.

I thought they stopped lowering rates for females because there accident rates have been increasing while males have been decreasing in recent years, and there study showed its pretty close now.

The coverage I quoted I'm paying for my kid is full coverage. And its on my policy.

I do however keep higher than required amounts on the liability but higher than average deductables. I keep $1000 deductables. Because my father in law owns a body shop. And he can make most of that disapear for me.

Yup thats just the differance between NY and any other place in the country, we have the 2nd highest insurance rates. Did they raise it on you after the accident?

Yup. they went up about 100 bucks every 6 months on his car. For three years. He lost his safe driver deduction was all. He got a One point ticket for "driving to fast for conditions"
