car stereo help

anyway im getting a new car, the title is coming in on monday and im switching my cd player and 10" sub/amp set up to the new car, now without being able to see the new cars wiring, do i need to cut the radio wiring harness outa my old car to wire it into the new one? when i pulled out the radio it has the female end of a plug for the wiring, will the new car have the male end(or any car for that matter) or should i take the male end outa the old car too

I would say in all likelyhood the new headunit won't just plug in to the existing harness, you will need some kind of adapter. Or you could cut the one out of your car and start splicing wires. But then try selling your car without a radio, and the price is going to go down.
I just bought the adpater so I could leave the factory wires alone, this way if I sell it to someone who for some reason wants the stock radio, its no big deal to put it back in.

Like what Pyro said you will probably need a new wiring harness and someone to soder it together for you if you can't do it.

Any good stereo shop is well stocked in adapters, just unplug yours and tell them your car and what kind of stereo you have and you then just need to plug everything in and your ready to rock.

well i already took the harness outa my old car(im donating it to charity....or pushing it into a pond, havent decided yet) so your saying i can either splice my old harness to the new car(i wont need to solder if i use caulk and wire nuts will i?) or buy an adapter ?

Just solder it, than put some heat shrink over it. Soldering isn't that hard, its like $8 for a set at radio shack
Yes you should be able to splice it right in, but there is a chance the colors of the wires wont' be the same, in which case you need to find wireing diagrams. I would recommend against cutting the factory harness if your buying a decent car. Best route I would think is most likely you get an adapter from a store which will either have bare wires on one end or another plug on the end. If it has the plug on the end, cut it off, then you splice that into the harness that plugs into the back of your radio.
Best thing to do is go to a stereo store, even circuit city will do, and ask. They will get you setup with the harnesses you need to eitehr splice it in (cheaper route), or just plug everything right in (more expensive and easier route).

come get it and you can have it, its got some tranny problems but it runs and drives pretty well, im on capecod start walkin(i say walking cause i dont want you to get another ticket)

oh crap... don't do what pyro said... geez..

ok, here's what you do. Go to best buy, ultimate electroics... even walmart has the right adapters.... you need to be looking for the model and year... each car has a specific adapter. WHY? so you don't have to solder!! geeezz

ok... so here's what you do. take the stereo out of your car. it SHOULD have a wireing harness on it already... if it's wired directly into the car then someones already been cutting and stuff... either way all you need for your new car is the stereo and the harness for the back of it. Either cut the wires or unplug the existing OEM adapter. The easiest, fastes and cheapest way to do this is with the little red crimp on sleaves you can buy at wal-mart or radio shack. Take the stereos harness and crimp one side of the red things on the back of each wire and crimp the OEM adapter to the other sides of the crimping sleaves. DONE

Now plug in the OEM adapter into the FACTORY harness and then plug the stereos harness into hte back of the stereo. If the hole in your dash in a standart DIN size opening then you can use the metall sleave the stereo uses and just stick in in the hole, bend over some of the clips and your done. If you got a GM then your gonna need a dash kit and those go by make, model and year too. They will have instructions that will tell you exactly how to install the stereo into the kit and the kit into the dash. The whole thing shouldn't cost more then $30 and take no longer then 2 hours to do, even if you have NO CLUE how to do this!...

Let me know if this was unclear. Also what kinda car DID you have, what kinda car are you getting and whats the model number on the stereo. If I got those I can tell you exactly what you are going to have to do...I do 10-20 car stereos each year, so I know what I'm doing.

Whats wrong with soldering? I don't think I hurt my sound quality soldering then using heat shrink on the connections, and I saved $16 they wanted for the adapter .

You think soldering damn stereo wires, try crawling under your dash, takeing the electrical tape off a whole bunch of connections, pulling out the wire they spliced in for the alarm, soldering them back together and heatshrinking. That was fun. But atleast I dont keep kicking the thing and getting annoyed now.

ok this is how it works...
there is a plug from your deck to a plug. then that same plug to your car plug. so there is a separate plug in between the deck plug and the car plug...every car and brand of deck has their own plugs.. you will have to go buy new plugs for it more than likely..
if this doesn't make sense..IM on Bshoun12injc and ill try to explain it further
