I've never done any work on any hyundai.... so I'm not really sure.. from the looks of the dash there is only one way.. it's cliped on and a little gentle pulling and it pops right off..I don't know anyone around here that drives an elantra, so I can't even ask to take a look.

I CAN tell you the black trim is the face of the dash. Meaning that it was the last part they put on when the car was assembled, which means it's the first part off too.

Ok, so I took the libery to look up a good price on a scosche wire harness and a dash kit. after shipping your looking at something around 25$ then all you need is a stop at wally world or radio shack for RED 2 way crimp-ons. They look like a little tube, about an inch long and they are plastic with a metall tube in the middle that you can see.

BEFORE WE START, UNPLUG THE NEGATIVE CONNECTION (red) TO THE BATTERY IN BOTH CARS!!!

The aftermarket stereo in the duster is probably going to be a litle tough to get out. There should be a plastic trim that goes ALL the way around the face of the stereo. This is cliped on and breaks easy. Carefully try and pry it off the stereo. Underneath this you should see a little sheet-metall ring. This will turn out to be a sleeve that runs 1/3 the depth of the stereo. You are going to need this for the dash in the elantra. And on both sides of the stereo there will be tinny slots. These are access points to locks that hold there stereo in. Your stereo came with 2 keys that you would just slide in these slots, they would unlock the locks and when you pulled then out the stereo would come with it. 9 times out of 10 these keys are gone. There is NO common way to getting the stereo out at this point, so you'll have to play around. If you have a camara you can E-mail me pics and ask questions and I'll do my best to help out.

Once you have the stereo out there should be 2 harnesses in there. One going directly into the stereo and one a little down the cables. IF there isn't one half way down the cables then we got a little more work ahead of us.. if not your SET!

Once you have the stereo out we need to get the metall sleeve out to use in the elantra. Usually it's mounted in a dash-kit, kinda like the one I linked for you. Some times in cars around the early 90's and older the sleeve is fitted RIGHT into the dash. If it's in a dash kit there WILL be screws holding it in there somehow. If it's not in a dash kit you'll need to use a pair of needle nose pliars and/or a screwdriver to bend little tabs.

First unplug the antenna-it's usually the fatest cable and goes diretly into the back of the stereo. Next unplug the harness in the middle of the cables ( sometimes you need a little flat screw driver and need to pull up on a tinny tab to release them from each other. Be careful not to break the tab, you'll need it if you are going to put another stereo back in the duster.

With your stereo out, look at the cable. If you had a professional shop install it there will be either crimp-ons some where between the 2 harness plugs or they might actually be soldered. Either way you need to cut all the wires on the stereo side of the crimp-ons/solder joins. Don't worry about the colors, the kit I have linked will have instructions with a color code to the wires. If not, since they are universal.. with a very few discrepancies, I know which wire is which.. just ask me

We are done with the duster... let me know what you decide to do about a stereo for that car. Send me a pic of the dash sometime, I have a am/fm stereo from another dodge that might fit you can have if you want it, LMK

Ok, now to the elantra. Any luck with the black trim? If you managed to get it off the stereo should be screwed in with 2, 3 or 4 screws... some times foreign car are cliped in use your little screw driver to reach the clips which will no doubt be very tinny. I'm kinda guesstimating here since I've never been in the dash of an elantra.
Once the stereo is out, unplug the antenna. Again it's the thickest cable. Then unplug the harness from the back of the stereo. You might want to put this stereo into the duster, which IS possible if it fits, but might prove to be more difficult to get the wires hooked up, since there are no harnesses for OEM stereos. If you decide to do this, LMK as well and practise your soldering a little

So now we need to put the new stereo into the new car. First take a look at the wire harness you bought and make sure it's the right one for the elantra ( humans make mistakes too ) if it is your all good, if now LMK and I'll see what's up, pictures would help! Assuming we got the right harness you'll need to break out something to crimp the wires together. MOST should match by color anyway, others will be slightly off and you can refer to the instructions that come with the harness or talk to me.

You'll need to strip about 3/8" of the unsulation off the wires from the stereo. The wires on the harness should be pre-cut and will just pull off. Crimp the wires together with the red crimp-ons. Do one side with one cable and the other with the matching cable from the other side. The cables DO NOT need to touch in the middle, since the sleeve is conducting. Once you got both cables together give them a gentle tug to make sure they are crimped good. If they come apart just cut it off, strip another 3/8" section and try again.

Now we have to work on the mount for the new stereo. Open the dash kit and read the instructions. Each dash kit is different and they usually need some trimming to fit YOUR SPECIFIC CAR. Once you have this done, stick the metall sleeve in the dash kit and bend a few tabs over to make it tight. Now follow the instructions on how to mount it in the Elantra. Dash kit's usually mount with the same holes the stereo used.

You problably know what to do from here, but I'll spell it out anyway.
Now plug the wire harness to the one in the car, then the atenna and slide the stereo into the metall sleeve until it clicks on both sides ( the locks remember? ). At this point you can reconnect your car battery and see if everything is working alright. If not, we need to do some trouble shooting. LMK, I'll help you as best I can. And but the dash back together.

If you broke anything or can't get the metall sleeve out without severly bending the snot outta it you may want to price a new one. In my many years of custom fiberglass dashes I found a good source for almost all brand or stereos up to 10 years old, for parts. Give them a call. the plastic trim on the stereo, the one that breaks easy and the metall sleeve are about 25-30$ each.
