    GRE exams

Well, it's gettin to be about that time. I'm planning on taking the GRE in may. I know some people here must have taken it. Is it just like the SATs? I'm at a pure engineering school, so the most grammer orientated stuff I've done in the past 3 years has been typing here on AO. I can do math no problem, but I'm really worried about the verbal stuff. I'm pretty much clueless about the actual setup of the exam. If someone could give me a quick rundown on the GRE, that would be great.

    Thanks!

Take the practice test the company sends you when you register for the test. Some of the prep books that are sold are helpful, but knowing the test is all that I would recommend for the verbal part so in a way it is similar to the ACT/SAT. But they aren't looking for your knowledge of facts they are looking for the long term learning skills. The things you have built on your entire life.

If you are really worried I would recommend taking one of the test prep classes that are offered. Those people will teach you how to use the test to the best of your advantage. It really wasn't that hard to me but I've got a MA in English.

The new writing section they have is super easy. Everyone I've known that has taken the new test has scored at least 5.5 out of 6. The GRE company (can't remember the name) just makes sure you are able to write a decent argument and use decent grammar. Another good thing is that most school don't use this section because it is so new.

Good luck, let us know how you do once you take the test.
