Is anyone else so excited about this movie that they will kick their mom? I saw the preview for it the other day and I was like WHAO! (no, that is not a typo). I have always been an uberfan of Zombie/horror films and with this, combined with RE2 coming out sooner or later I am really excited. Anyone else share my sentiment?

I am a huge fan of George Romero. Night of the Living Dead (the 1968 version) is a horror classic. Dawn of the Dead (the 1979 version) was even better, though not as widely seen. Day of the Dead (1985) was forgettable.
I'm disappointed that Dawn of the Dead is being remade, especially considering that [1] the 1990 remake of NotLD was awful, and [2] DotD is already a perfectly made film.
DotD is a horror staple, an in-your-face thriller commonly filed under 'horror' that received wide critical acclaim (Roger Ebert listed DotD as a 10 best / 4 star film in '79).
Remaking DotD is like trying to remake The Exorcist or The Omen ... sure you can, but why?
Skip the theater. Stay at home and rent the original video.Comment

ya man i am super excited about it, i just saw the comerical today. it looks great, i love scary movies like that, it kinda reminds me of the end of resident evil and 28 days l8r witch had a good story plot but i thought it would b more scary, but it might b totally different. i cant wait to c it.
Dryden- yes it is kinda dumb to remake videos, but i dont know if you saw the new version of texas-chainsaw-massacre, but i thought it was great, the origonal(sp) was good too but i thought the remake was better.Last edited by fcpchop; 02-23-2004, 05:40 PM.Bad Traders: Brice34, complete total fraud, lied constantly and stole 60$ for an egg Comment

It looks like a good movie, I saw the preview at 3:00 AM when I woke up from a dead sleep, it scared the hell out of me. I saw the 1979 version and it was great. Can't wait for it to come out.I Like To Eat Crayons, I Really Like The Red Ones, I Wonder If They Make Red Crayon Pie

Dawn of the Dead was awesome. The two rednecks in the field was great stuff. Funny, I'm a zombie nut, but I can pass on most horror flicks.
Resident Evil was great also. I loved 28 Days Later.
Also, they are making a Resident Evil 2. Very cool.Thanotos

Well, I don't have a complaint about remaking movies in general, but I'm not certain Dawn of the Dead is appropriate fodder.Originally posted by fcpchop

Lots of movies have been redone (some several times) and many times the updates dwarf the original (Last of the Mohicans leaps to mind - which I believe has been made at least four times). The problem is with remaking wildly popular movies.
Most people won't know Dawn of the Dead since the film is 25 years old, and wasn't widely accepted when it came out. Most people would throw it into the bin of 'camp' horror material, but that doesn't do the movie justice.
Sure, it didn't exactly win any Oscars, but I know a lot of horror film fans put Dawn of the Dead on the same pedestal that sci-fi fans reserve for Star Trek or Star Wars (not that I'm trying to equate the general popularity of the two - just illustrate the point of how horror film fans perceive the two).
Unfortunately, I probably don't have any wiggle room to complain, since in the end it's all about George Romero and Tom Savini trying to bleed more money from the franchise.
And, BTW, I've seen both Texas Chainsaw films, and wasn't too impressed with either. The original was creepy, especially for its day, but I don't think it lives up to its enormous reputation.Comment
