Greed is greed, it doesn't come in degrees.
Let's use Tom Kaye for example. Of course he would like to make a living, and probally a decent one at that. (Greed?)
But he hasn't went to the same lengths that other companies (Smart Parts) has, to get his piece of the pie. SP is greedier than he is.Comment

dick cheney's company strikes again! it wasn't enough to attempt to get a contract for the reconstruction of iraq, but halliburton had to go and do this, too. greed sucks.
Two things.
One, VP Dick Cheney divested hismself of any dealings with Haliburton when he was elected to the ofice of VP. To say that Haliburton is Dick Cheneys' company is ridiculous and typical of the leftist mentality.
Two, So friggin what if Haliburton wanted in on the Iraq? I know all you liberals would rather wwe just turned the whole show over to the French for the cleanup. Guess what? WE'RE doing the work of liberating Iraq, we get to decide who gets the contracts. Now I completely understand that you'll stamp your feet and throw yet ANOTHER fit over this. Too bad.

Cheney still receives "deferred compensation" and has "unexercised stock options" with Halliburton. Most likely when his term is up, he'll go back to the company in some capacity and I'm sure they'll give him some sort of compensation for his efforts on their behalf. I don't care so much that Halliburton is making a buttload of money in Iraq. What annoys me is that they're bypassing the public bid process required for every contract using public funds and each new contract is granted to them, without competition, as an extension of one they won in 2001."Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices." - VoltaireComment

And so out of this you'll manufacture some total, foil hat on the head, nonsense.Originally posted by Zygote

I don't really see how you can see it as nonsense. It's a pretty logical conclusion.Comment

Do you know what deferred compensation is? It is not based on current company earnings. This is money that belongs to Cheney. He earned it, but deferred it to the future to lower his taxes.Originally posted by Zygote

This is done accross the coutry in many companies and quite often in professional sports! Heck deferred compensation is what allowed Mario Lemeaux to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins!
As for the stock options, guess what they all have shelf lifes. In my company, I have 6 years to exercise my options. Cheney can't exercise his now and most likely will see them expire before he can use them seeing as how he will be VP for another 4 years!

I realize that deferred compensation is money he has already earned. Any dividends on the stocks would apparently be given to charity as well. But Congress seems to consider it to be proof that he does in fact have a continuing financial interest in Halliburton."Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices." - VoltaireComment

Enlighten me, by all means.
See, in the business world, (you know the one the left hates?), there's this thing called compensation for services rendered.
In Cheney's case it includes but is probably not limited to, stock options, deferred retirement earnings, and that is part of a severance package for having provided his services to the company.
You're probably getting confused about the whole "work" thing, where people actually provide a compensated service.
I'm sure you're much more aware of the welfare thing, where foot stomping whiners stand around with their hands out demanding other peoples monies.
Of course, Haliburton being one of the largest companies involved with oil production and infrastructure, having ANYTHING to do with iraq and the reconstruction of their oil fields that were neglected for 40 some odd years, drives you libs up the wall. God forbid an AMERICAN company that is the WORLD LEADER in the field, is picked to rebuild the oil industry.
I mean what the devil were we thinking? It should have gone to France right?
