radar detectors

do any of you guys use the radar detectors? i feel like my luck is running out. but which ones are the best with a resonable price like around 50 dollars or so?

We have a $400 one. We hate it. I would say, just don't speed.

Or get one of those that scrambles the signal.

detectors give you a false sence of security cause most of the time the state police have a new system, that ur detector doesnt see.

most popo's use laser now, so the detectors are useless. just set the cruise control to like 5 over the limit at the max, and youll be set

last i heard they ruled its not illegal to recieve signals but it is illegal to interfere with them ( ie scramblers)

Get a Valentine V1, they are expensive as hell, but they are EXTREMELY nice. You aren't going to get a good one for $50. Either go for a nice one, or don't speed. Also, you could build a radar scrambler for about $30, but that is just a little illegal....

Ok, I had a radar detector for a couple of years, until it got stolen. Anyways the radars the police use are picked up by radar detectors right before they shoot you, so you don't really have enough time to slow down, unless they shoot someone in front of you. Radar detectors work fricking awesome in Canada though. When I drove through canadia going to Alaska anytime a mounty was around me my radar detector was flipping out. If you ever drive through Canda get one, but they only marginally work in the U.S.

Oh yeah cobra radar detectors are cheap (under $100) and work great. Whatever you do don't buy a battery powered one they are total crap.

Just like you bought the detector to get around the radar gun, the guns have a feature to get around your detector. Its called the hold button. Meaning that they have the gun off untill they see you, then turn it on, and at that point its too late. If they have there gun on and leave it on most likely they arn't interested in giving out tickets and are just there to slow people down. THe only time it will do you good most likely is if he hits a guy infront of you, your detector will go off.

make sure whatever you get also has laser. I've been saved at least 4-5 times by mine. its a great thing to have

not that i condone speeding of course....

Better be careful...I live right near the border to Canada, and I see signs that say they are illegal to own there....

My friend has a great in dash one in his jeep and it works very well.

You know what you are being targetted by and you know when you go by certain placed cause of the band signal it sends out.

You also know when you ahve been tagged by a troopers laser. and if you were speeding, that means pull over, lol. You cant pick up a laser untill it hits your car in most systems, meaning you are screwed if speeding

To echo what the canucks already stated, make sure it's legal where you live. I know in Virginia they're illegal state-wide.

All Whistlers here,super wide/full band/laser/360*/RD2/info and emergency.

But it does take smart driving as well.

Don't speed when your the only one on the road.

Keep a tight line on inside turns.

Keep your eyes focused down the road.(high beams at night if no incomming traffic works wonders on reflective tape)

If "signaled" DON'T jam on the breaks.Drop a gear or lightly pull the e-brake.Try not to let your headlights dive.

If "signaled" you have until he makes eye contact with you to get as close as possible to the speed limit.DON'T be the fastest moving vehicle in a group when you get to the Radar gun.

If all else fails......get 'er up to 160 or better,it seems that if you go by fast enough,they won't even bother.Just get off before they radio for back up.
