Removing Speed Governer on a Golf Cart?

    I was just wondering...
Is there a way to remove the speed governer on a Gas Powered golf cart? I've heard rumors of people doing it, and I've seen a golf cart going really fast around my neighborhood, but I don't know who's it is. If there's a way, how? Step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    -mjs

Anything can be removed!! You could hurt your engine, but eh. We do it on go-karts all the time, we only blow engines, well, not TOO often And make sure you don't float the valves.

What you're gonna want to do is find a manual for the engine you have in your golf cart, and get a diagram of the engine. If you're lucky, you will find the governor on the diagram eaisily and then find the linkage to the carberator and then just disconnect it.

Don't hurt yourself on your faster golf cart, and you didn't hear this from me.

Just look at it and figure it out. When I worked at a golf course, we had a couple carts that were pretty quick. And at another job we had carts at we took the governors off, and also hotwired them so you didn't need the key. And we killed the annoying reverse beeper.

We did this once. We golfcarjacked a golfcar, and was driving around on some roads. The thing was friggin cruising.. but the engine wasn't doing to well.

I know nothing about engines.. but here's what we do.
Step by step instructions? There's not much to it.

There should be a lever type thing or something that is sprung in the down positiong. Simply pull it up, and stick something in it so it won't be able to go down. I know that probably won't help much.. but.. it can't hurt ^^

Nope, we never let members of the club have the nice carts. None of the bosses drove the carts with the governers out. One time though one of the priests (church fair) decided he wanted to take the golf cart for a ride, and we still had the governer on. We didn't get in trouble though because he didn't know how it should be
Oh and the peoples whose carts we screwed with were rich, so it didn't matter when things broke

As for golf carts on campus, at my school its a definate no. Some of the professors are allowed to use carts though.

I've been kicked out of the go-cart racing tracks for reaching back and using the throttle on the side of teh carb, bypassing the slack in the linkage... hehe, but I was winning the race

Im not sure what kind you have but, I think on older EZ-GO golf carts, there is a bar that when the clutch comes forward, the bar is there and stops it from going any further, which will limit the speed. Chances are if you saw a golf cart driving around fast, it probably wasnt the stock motor.
