Help With MSN

I am trying to get into MSN, but it wont let me log on. here is what is says.

what does this mean?

When I try to open up windows messenger I get this error repot message

"Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Questions:
1) Are you using the right OS for the version of MSN?
2) Did you start downloading a patch and cancelled it during download?
3) Do you have any other Messaging applications that run of the MSN extension? If so, it may be try to load it twice. I don't think Windows can do that.
4) I take it you've uninstalled/re-installed it already to see if its just a file error?
