Why is XP all stupid like this? (web images)

My desktop is at 1680 x 1024 or whatever.
Everything is (probably isn't.. because I'm having this problem) seems to be normal to me.

But some images always look crappy like that.
    What's up with that?
    (on web only)

    Thanks.

Get the windows updates, my internet does some odd things when you reinstall windows, but once you get the updates, all better.

If your desktop is 1680 x 1024 then you have monitor problems... (unless you have a flatscreen monitor, like the new apple desktops, dead sexy) It should be 1280 x 1024 (4:3 ratio). If you are running a 4:3 ratio then move on...

Next thing to check is that you have updated your Internet explorer. What version are you running. I remember people having problems like this and it was fixed in one of the automatic updates. (was something wrong with decoding png and jpeg. If you have covered that move on...

Last thing I can think of is that you possibly have a bug/virus that is messing with the constraints of tables and images. (therefore displaying the correct image in a smaller or larger viewing area than it is meant to be). The only way to fix this is to re-install a new copy of IE. I would check to see if it is IE that is causing the problem by trying a different web browser, Opera, Netscape...

first make sure you have the latest graphics drivers, for some reason my ati radeon likes to do this on certain settings, if you have the latest driver, then try adjusting your directx settings to see if that does anything

as other people said above though, go to www.windowsupdate.com and make sure you have all the critical updates, it sounds like something is wrong with your internet explorer

After looking at the image again, it doesn't look like an OS or software glitch, more of an "error between keyboard and chair" (hardware/user setup) . What size monitor are you using and what is the exact resolution that you are running? Also, video card/manufacture would be nice. If you are using an nVidia GPU I'd suggest getting the latest Detonators. If you are using an ATi GPU I'd find the most stable Catalyst drivers (not necessarily the latest). Need more info before I can try to help further.

If his Direct X was messed up, he would find errors when viewing offline pictures or other things in the OS. This is IE specific I am gathering.

Flatscreen, yes, it is a laptop, and that is the recomended, and default, resolution.

I used Opera on my old computer, but have not got around to downloading it on this one. I'll try that when I get home.

Yea that is what I have. But I tried downloading the Cataylst drivers and it wouldn't work. I downloaded the right one off ATI's site.. so I don't know whats up with that.

And this is a brand new dell, so I'd be suprised if it didn't have the lastest windows updatse, but I will try that when I get home, as it seems like the only option now.

                      Thanks/
