    Battlezone (not the arcade version)

    Best Game EVER!

I was just wondering if anyone else has either played this at one time or still plays it. It is a really sweet game and really tests your multitasking skills.

Full-Blown 3-D Warfare: Pilot one of 20 anti-gravity war machines equipped with weapons of destruction: mortars, mines and the devastating Thumper Device, which launches a Richter-heavy groundquake over the morphable terrain.

Full Strategic Control: You are the supreme commander of more than 30 unique units, including tanks, infantry and mobile assault turrets. Build bases, deploy forces, manage resources and build your empire, all from the pilot's seat of your tank.

Realistic First-Person Combat Action: Ship shot down? Bail out, parachute to safety, then use your sniper rifle to take out an enemy pilot and steal the ship for sweet revenge. Switch vehicles right on the battlefield of one of seven distinct moons or planets.
In other words, it is every single genre of video game (except for sport) all rolled into one. Command & Conquer and every other top down strategy can't even begin to compete with the action of this game.

But that is only the first Battlezone.

Trust me, if you're looking for a mind challenging action game, get this game. You may have a hard time finding it though, it was I believe a 1999 game, but the graphics are beautiful.

Yeah, I liked how you could redeploy the Recycler and move it to another place (at least I think you can, haven't played it in forever). But the first one didn't allow you to customize the tanks unless you built an armory.

I wish I was able to find the Battlezone Gold Edition with the Chinese missions. Cloaking would've been sweet!

I have both, and I think (actually I hope) BZ1 works. I'll try that later. (Crosses fingers)

Yeah i loved both of them ... I thought BZ1 was better online, but BZ2 had a better single player story.

I loved going from vehicle shooter, to strategy builder, to first person shooter on foot ... was a very nice game.

I was playing BZ1 2 days ago... For some reason, I get going for 30 minutes or so and it crashes...

Excellent game for its age, tho.

My Battlezone 2: Forgotten Enemies does that too. I always chalked it up to bad coding since it is a community project and not an actual production of the game. But as for BZ1 crashing that may just be because it's so old. I remember I got that with some old old joystick. The copyright on it is 1998, lol.

So I look at it like this, an 80 year old guy (BZ1) is driving a brand new Ferrari Enzo (all the new hardware compared to back then), so what's the most likely outcome? A crash

Edit: I was going to try Planetside, but I think you have to pay for it, don't you? And besides, Battlezone was first, Tribes was second, Planetside used parts of them both, so:

                  Battlezone > Tribes > Planetside

Only other one I've heard of is Tribes: Vengeance. That one does sound pretty sweet, especially how it says in one line "Experience the world of Tribes through the eyes of a 5 year old." Umm, that would be a bit frightening, lol.

Weren't they supposed to come out with a Tribes for XBox Live? I'm still waiting for that one.

yes PS is 13 a month, that pays for the servers, the devs and the new content.

out of curiosity, when was the last time you played any game that had a few thousand people playing on the same server at the same time?

yeah PS is an amalgam of different games, it's biggest thing though is the huge battles, the huge maps, and the tactics.

Alright, I admit, I've never played a game with a few thousand people playing (is there really that many? Dayum!) I have wanted to play a game like that; go off on my own, try to sneak around to the enemy's base, set off some thermo nuclear device . . . ok, maybe that wouldn't happen, but I can imagine. Barney said so!

Anyways, how's the lag factor in Planetside? Is there alot, cuz it seems like there should be with a lot of people on the same server. But then technology is better, so there might not be. I'm going off what I've experienced with console games played online.

Also, I know we used to sell it, but I haven't really seen it on the shelves. Do the game stores in the malls still sell them or do you have a link I can DL from?

I'm always up for a new game. My friend's trying to get me into Star Wars Galaxies, but it's not my kind of game.

You aren't far off from the game in your description.

I play as an infilitrator a lot. Cloaking armor, and very sneaky movements.

Find an enemy AMS(Advanced Mobile Station) set up an orbital strike and nuke the bugger into junk.

Yeah on any given night there are in excess of 3000 people playing at any given time.

The servers are setup so that there are in reality only several hundered on a continent(server) so the lag is not as bad as you'd think. The continents are huge, and battles can and do last hours to lock a cont. Sometimes hours to take a single base.

The only downside is you need a damned good PC to run it.

I had to completely rebuild mine recently and it's doing the job. My RAM is holding me up a bit now.

You can download the trial from planetside.com last I knew.

                              I think it's a 10 or 7 day trial.
