I know some good uses for H2SO4, but 10% is fairly weak. You can get it at alot of normal stores though, and battery acid usually has other stuff in it, so it's not good for certain things.Classic RT - RT02667

Cphil are you thinking of sodium which will react with water and usually stored under an oil of some type. Mg is about as reactive to humidity and water as aluminum and I think it can even be annoed like aluminum. In fact racers use an mg and aluminum alloy for the metal in rims and it is used in aircraft.I think there for, I am I think. am I?Comment

Mg reacts in acid to create hydrogen. I don't think it does anything in water, but i know it reacts with either sulfuric or hydrochloric acid to create hydrogen.
What is sorta fun is to put the acid and Mg in a test tube, put a balloon over the top of the test tube, tape it on, and then just let it sit.
The balloon will fill up with hydrogen. then, tape a match to a yardstick and light it, then touch the balloon.
BOOM.
But, you want to video tape it, the explosion is so fast, most people can't even see it.
If you video tape it, you can go frame by frame and check it out.Comment

just played with some in chemestry today, it didnt react with water, so im not shure what that is about, but you could make some firework sout of it, it burns very bright when lit, or mabey a flash-bang grenade

Oh now thats even cooler stuff there! I love that. I think indeed I did have sodium on the brain when I was going into all that. The water reactive things set me off on that track. yea Sodium is treamendously more reactive. Funs stuff!Originally posted by Southpaw

i once went to a VW van fire (old hippie van) and it had some magnesium in the engine
it was a major paint to put out
but you can do it with a lot of water."The Few Who Do Are The Envy Of The Many Who Only Stand And Watch"

As far as I know, all the Alkali metals, except mabey Lithium, react violently with water. Which makes me very happyOriginally posted by cphilip
