Well after a friend of mine has been using an altered state ID for a few months it got taken away from him. He's used it at numerous bars, clubs, and grocery stores and had it work fine. Tonight at a bar thats hes been to before the bouncer took it away. He asked what he was gona do with it and he said he was gona keep it. Hes had it turned down before but never taken away. The problem with it is that since its an real ID thats been altered all his info is on it like his name and SSN. Does anyone know the penalties for having an altered ID because he is afriad that the bouncer will turn it into the police. Thanks for any info

for the most part .. don't WORRY!
IF they do take it to the police, and IF the police do call, your friend can say "my id was stolen" or "lost" .. so they won't call cuz it's a waste of their time. They have no way of prooving it was your friend who tried to get into the bar.
PLUS its doubtful that the bouncer even sent it to the police .. prolly just backhanded it into the trash can...
*edit* . this has been happening for the past 100 years
.. as long as printed id's have been in existence ... and i've never heard of anyone actually paying a fine for it .. cept maby for paying to replace the id.

I told him that I would be kinda fearing because of 911. Didnt they make the penalties and stuff a lot more harsh after that or is that only for people that make IDs. The one he had was a state issued ID that he scratched up the numbers on. It just sucks cause he was my source for beer. I guess he could say that it was stolen but if the bouncer ever testifies if it reached the court it was his picture and im sure the prick bouncer would remember his face.Comment

Who would go to trial for a fake id ... trying to get into a bar ... it's not WORTH it
for the bouncer nor for the cops ... or the courts for that matter. Young punk kid got taught a leason for just getting it taken away.. or so they think.Sig image file size too big... MarkM

yeah thats what I figured dansim. My friend didn't want to argue or piss of the bouncer because he thought that it would just agrivate(sp) him and the last thing he wanted was to have the bouncer be like "ok wtf you wana have the cops see what they think about this." Its reasuring that you guys have responded with things like dont worry and such. It makes my "friend" feel much better. To mourn the loss of my "friends" ID I drank a few 40s and feel pretty good. Thanks for all the info and positive feedback. If everyone was like your gona rot in jail I would be loseing it haha. Thanks. Damn straight "or so they think" My friend has learned no lesson.Comment

Now if a bar takes a real ID accidently, and they procede to nail it to the wall or whatever, can you go after them? For destroying your ID (i'm guessing at the very least they would have to pay for a replacement), for taking it in the first place (they basically stole it), and lastly for publically displaying it.
And the worst ive heard of last semester the kid across the hall had his ID chalked, and a gas station took it from him when he was trying to buy cigerettes (funny thing is he was 18 and could have legally bought them). They turned it into the police with all the fake ID's they got, he went to the police to try and get it back. They told him to go to the DMV, and that the DMV would charge him $250 for altering an id (some legal term that I don't remember) before he could get his license back. So at the very worst he could get yelled at by his parents and have to pay a fine.

he probably wont turn it in since that might cause the police to keep a closer eye on the bar. it will probably be done like everyone else is saying and put on a trophy rack.
i would tell him to go and get a new id from the DMV now so that way it should only cost him a $5 replacement fee(in illinois anyway its $5)
that way if the PD does call he can use that to his lost id case."The Few Who Do Are The Envy Of The Many Who Only Stand And Watch"

I'd be more worried about identity theft than trouble with the law. If its his real SSN on the fake and it ends up in the hands of the wrong person, that could be trouble.Silver ULE X Valved Mag
